There is one thing I don't understand. I'm assuming that people who write, create and spread viruses often just want to be well known on the internet and gain respect. But would the person not get more respect by making and spreading a virus which did good instead of bad, for example deleting others viruses.

Sanity worm code has been released into the underground for public display...
If my friends elaborate, I'll come back with more on this "breaking news"... otherwise, google shud help
