I took an Image from a windows 2000 configuration PC, and stored in on a second HD, that has 2 partitions. Partition 1 to restore the image and partition 2 were the image is located.
That HD I put in a new PC.
I used the bootable rescue disc to restore the image from partition 2 on partitio 1.
When the restore is done I reboot and I get the first screen from windows where you can press F8 to go in safe mode.
Then I get a blue screen that says 'inaccessible boot device' and the system hangs.
I then reboot and insert the windows setup CD. I go into the recovery console and use the commands fixmbr and fixboot.
No effect.
Can anyone help me because this is very annoying.

Sounds like you are screwed.

Try this.

Make a win98 or dos 6.22 boot disk.
Make sure you have fdisk on the boot disk.

Boot to floppy

at the a prompt type

fdisk /mbr

remove floppy disk

reboot pc

Kristofvan:

This is a common problem when moving a Windows installation to different hardware. Although it is for Windows XP, you may want to check out this MS KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314082)

The simplest fix, however, may be to do an in-place reinstall of Windows.
