How did you find wilders security forum?

November 24th, 2004, 05:02 AM
It was 2003 November if I remember correctly , when I was having problems in machine. I didnt know what to do but God gave me some intelligence to search for the exe and my type of problem. I searched in Google and came wilderssecurity. well.. I would say thats turning point of my life in many ways. I came to this forum, not only got it solved but on process started learning the reasons I was infected. And then there was ten forward and then all friends here and this became my home and life for me changed a lot since then. And I still think... Thank God I found Wilders Security.

Some time ago I had problems with anti-spyware products flagging legitimate stuff, like ZeroSpyware and Maxion Spykiller. Looked it up on Google and found the Spyware Warrior forum where I learned that those two were rogue anti-spyware. >:( In the mean time ZeroSpyware is no longer a rogue one and I had great info at that forum. Still visit this forum as time permits.:)
I got a lot of info from Eric L. Howes, for which I can't thank him enough as well as the other members. As a promise to him I now have his link to his webpage in all my sigs to inform others.8)
Also found a link to this forum and first checked it out before registering.
Got hooked on the enormous information to be found ;D and especially the warm welcome by the members. It also helps to gather info to help others at the forums I'm moderating/administrating.
I'm HERE to stay. ;)

One day when I was feeling really 'wild', and somewhat 'security' minded, I put the two together and BOOM, I was here..... no longer there.... where? here from there..... when? then.... understand? ;) ;D
Actually there was another older discussion very similar to this one around here somewhere.

We had a vaguely related thread to this one quite recently, but what the heck ...
I'm surprised that the poll choices didn't include tech support. I got both SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard about a year ago at the recommendation of friends elsewhere, and of course this is where their "official" support is, along with support for Javacool's other goodies, so that's what first brought me here.
I've found lots of other technical things of interest here, plus of course good friends, but that's how I got started.

I wish I could remember the name of the magazine. It was not like PC World it was more along the lines of SmartComputing. Much more instructional instead of latest products articles. I was taking "crash courses" by reading everything I could get my hands on to make things as easy as possible when maintaining and use my new PC which was light years ahead of my 1994 prior purchased PC. So anyway along about 2002 maybe :-\ . I saw wilders.org mentioned as a good place to go. Stopped by took a look and book marked it. Flew by and :lurking: unregistered with no posts for a long time. Then one day I registered and more time went by and I just wanted to talk to all you good people so I started posting.... and so that's my story. ;D
I am pretty sure I first learned of or got confirmation about how good a product BoClean was from this forum. Thanks Paul and to all my friends.

Was accused of being a troll on another forum. Argued with a few members of this forum. Have been enjoying myself here ever since, and have found a damn nice bunch of people to boot.

Was searching one day for a good, reliable Anti-Trojan. During my search I just happened to run across the TDS (DCS) forum. After reading a number of posts, I not only fell in love with site, but also a number of other software products recommended by Wilder's members. I found that if one is interested in learing about PC Security, this is the place to be! :D

The Grc.com security forums use to have a 10-Forward but Steve Gibson had to get rid of the 10-For because of all the usual problems, trolls, politics, etc. The sincere folks, who were mostly interested in pc security but wanting a temporay escape talked about a place called Wilders also having a 10-Forward, some of us came here. It's a HUGE credit to Paul and the Mods that after all these years they can still run a 10-For without having to kill it like Steve unfortunately had to. I really appreciate the strictness that they use to run this tight ship (although more than once I was one of those having to be told to "Cool it" ;D )

Had my browser hijacked a few months ago. All my friends were gloom and doom, got all kinds of suggestions ranging from live with it to buy another computer. Local PC repair shop gave me little hope, said to drop it off and they'd see what they could do. A friend of a friend suggested Wilders. Two days later, my PC was clean and has remained so.
Now wiser, more careful and eternally grateful!

I found Wilders close to three years ago because all my friends at my home site (dslr) said to come here also. We also come here because we have great respect for this site and for Paul and we enjoy our "other" home. ;)

LOL!! Infinity, never predictable, huh??
I got a new Dell in 2003 (not 2004), never figured out what was so great about a chat room and needed to learn- went to the Dell (a-Hem) forum and was instantly mesmerized by a few posters who seemed to know soo much! ChrisRLG was one, he kept talking about Tom Coyote's forum and Wilders', when the Dell forums said they wouldn't help with spyware anymore (then) - flew to Wilders' - admit I liked the name - and found a second home.
Go to other forums, but, there is no other like Wilder's - you can learn - you can have fun - you can make friends - you can get into trouble (Acadia, me too!) - it's the perfect Family!!
And I respect the way Paul and the rest of the Big Guys run it... with some integrity and class...... :D

Well I got here through various google searches of Anti-Virus reviews and detection rates. I found various tests' links here.
I lurked here the whole of 2004.....After which I decided to join. When I first came I was very serious, no jokes, no crap, simply come to the forums, do your thing, and go!
I stepped into ten-forward to start a thread which was the root of some bad memories I wont forget.....
Since then everything's been fine. I love this forum. You can learn, teach, have fun, give fun....and so much more :)
I also deeply appreciate the Admin and Mod Teams for their efforts in keeping law and order, they do very well :)

believe it or not it was my 83 year
old grandmother who referred me to
wilders and dsl reports.
last year i loaned my grandmother my
computer, i was heading down south for
work, and i figured we would use email
to stay in touch.
i started receiving emails from her to
say she had taken an interest in computer
security and as proof she forwarded links
to two security sites that she said were
her favorites, dsl reports, and wilders.org.
funniest part of this story is that while
it was me who loaded grandma a computer,
it was grandma who first started teaching
me about computer security.
my grandmother passed away in february
and i still come to wilders daily because
what grandma taught me is you are never to

Doing either a Yahoo or Google search for security type apps, I came across a link for a product (don't remember which one now) that had a link to Wilders. I clicked on the link, some saw very useful topics and read some of the replies from people posting, and decided that there was a lot of useful knowledge being shared here that I could learn quite a bit from.
Well, I can say in all honesty that I have learned quite a bit from the people posting here in a relatively short time. They're quick to share their knowledge and provide (what I believe is) sincere and helpful advice. The irony is that many of the products I like and use are not very popular in these forums, but that's OK. We all have different likes and tastes, and I generally go with what I like and am comfortable with....but the info shared here is still priceless, none the less.

After a frustrating 30 minutes trying to access LAVASOFT Ad-Aware Support Forums links that led me in some loop-de-loop Lavasoft rollercoaster ride with the support bar unlatched, defective airbag, and an empty brake fluid reservoir, I was determined to find the missing piece that would justify the amount of wasted time and effort, and approx. 25 open browsers still waiting to be closed.
MSN (whom I love dearly) Search of the evil Lavasoft Support Forums (whom I still love, too), took me to my crash landing on a huge soft ball of cotton provided by...who else... Wilders. After reading several posts here, well, I think I'll kick back and become educated, informed, and knowledgeable courtesy of the many talented members who so graciously provide a wealth of information in "laymans terms" AND with good manners!! Go Figure!

So I decided that it wouldn't hurt anything to download a suspicious program (http://pamelajoy.com/pamela/perils/index.php) (ErrorGuard). Then I decided to do some research on it to see if I could get the program and all its tentacles off my computer. (I did.) I've got the URL from a guy who said his name (alias) was Kevin Mitnick (this is not true!!!),
he hacked my cellphone , here at the QQPKS , which he did according to him via the mossad and the CIA.
but i don't believe this i think he hacked it simply via the FBI.
When i asked him how he got all the information, he told me that he was
abducted by aliens, who crashed with their UFO, after the uploaded Windows XP
on their flightcomputer.
They also informed him that if you need information regarding your pc security,
you must have a look at this URL.
Sadly, the only way he could read the url, was after surgery,
the url was of course lasered on his implant.
He never could hear perfectly again with his left ear.
But that doesn't matter, because he still can hear voices,
nobody can hear, when his metal plate in is forehead
is in the correct direction, for receiving.
All the other information i got from him later, by mail was written
with a font, that can only be seen under a microscope on a piece of metal,
that is unknown on this earth.
As you can understand his code was not created by humans ...
It appears to be program code, for a program that can stop ALL malware a
from all Windows versions (Virusses,SPAM,spyware, dialers, trojans, etc) and it's security leaks.
Sorry, i have to go, now, their is bright light here in the room,
and someone knocking at my door ...

My very first security forum SWI was down for many days (didn't count them) and I had to look for another security forum to keep on learning.
It could have been any forum, but WSF was the one I remembered by name and I was too lazy to look for other forum names.
So I joined WSF and I don't regret it. Now I'm a member of two security forums.
SWI and WSF are quite different, but both forums have their own advantages and I can't say anything bad about any forum.
Security forums are the only way to get :
- informed about malwares, many users aren't even aware of malware.
- the right softwares, without buying one of these rogue softwares
- the right combination of these softwares, without getting into trouble.
- valuable tips based on experience and knowledge.
- qualified help.
- all that for free.
Typical users can't level with the knowledge of forums and they learn alot faster in a forum, then on their own. I speak of experience.
Serious security websites are also good, but they don't talk like a forum.
I like forums more than chatrooms, because I have enough time to translate my posts in English, using notepad.
Chatrooms are too sloppy and they lose their information constantly.
I'm also a moderator in a Free Lotto Forum, but the Free Lotto World is dying, because the advertising business went down significantly.
90% of the free lottos are SCAMS, so most free lotto players have a very short list (1 upto 20 free lottos).
This Free Lotto Forum has only one or two posts per day and that is very boring.
Playing on free lottos infects your computer too, so it was a small step to SWI and later WSF.
I stopped playing on free lottos, because I wasn't very lucky.
I won $91 in total and will probably use that money for buying softwares.
I won two times $100 but I wasn't paid.
I wouldn't recommend playing on free lottos anymore, because the golden days of the free lottos are over. Nowadays, nothing but low prices and very difficult to win because of the bad odds.

Once I switched over from Norton AV to NOD32 for my AV software, I knew this was the place to go since Eset has there forums here.
I was a long time lurker and guest poster, but after reading the TONS of information on this site, along with all of the great and knowledgeable users I finally decided to join up.
Not one regret in doing so either. This place is simply put, THE BEST! ;D

I was googling a deer hunting site as I wanted to try my luck using a bow or a spear. Well, I kept getting bogged down on sites refering to 'big buck', 'Blackspear', and Cochise. After perusing a few of their posts about ducks, eagles, cats (you too "Marj"), Dogs (??), blowflies, the size of unmentionables, and other very important topics of the day I knew this was the place to be. I have been able to amass an admirable amount of posts having absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The best part is that I see no reason to change in the forseeable future.

Actually.... I almost forgot how I find this great forum. Maybe I got this when I visited some sites that concerns security issues... I think when I visited grc.com or firewallleaktester.com or maybe on some other freeware sites out there. It's an accident really, and I've got to be thankful with this accident coz i for me it's a blessing in disguise, and I have learned lots of things on this forum. :)
I'm very thankful to all who've responded and who joined in this forum, and especially to the people who make this things possible... the wilderssecurity.com people. 8)
More power to all of you.... :-*
