Feedback and Questions

Ok, I have been reading about NOD32 for the past month and decide to give the trial version a try. Particularly after seeing some of the knocks KAV (AVP) had taken of the years and in particular with the last XP test at VB.

So a few points of feedback and few ?s:

1. Christ that thing is fast (broken record I am sure). I thought Spybot S&D was a fast scanner (different target but still) but thing was so fast, I was worried that it hadn't done anything. But that 18 out 19 100% on VB for windows OS flashed in my brain.

2. Relatively easy to set-up but not more so than KAV, at least in my opinion.

3. What I didn't expect was the design elements? Honestly, if I hadn't read about this program I would be wondering about the maker, because between the pulsing eye thing on AMON and the art on NOD32 I was getting flashbacks of album art for Danzig. I mean the Geiger theme just left me wondering a little. (see attached--does this man work at the offices of Eset?).

focussing on the "?" part: NOD32 v2.0 is just around the corner - be assured the cosmetics have changed totally - for the better ;).

Damn, I got so caught up the looks thing that I forget to ask my questions.

After reading numerous posts here I got the impression that NOD32 and the programming team at Eset focused on viruses but not trojans and worms. Now that confuses me because when I go to the Eset webpage, all the Virus News items on the left are about worms. In fact only one of the items is a virus. Also, this is a direct qoute from the product description:

"Viruses, worms, and other malware are kept out of striking distance from your valuable data. "

Huhh? I thought that was big debate between NOD32 and other AVs?

Ok, next question. Another qoute from the product description:

"Detects viruses in compressed or protected executable files (PKLite, LZexe, Diet, Exepack, CPAV)."

Now, again, I thought this was one of the features that other AV programs had adopted that NOD32 programming team had avoided (scanning compressed files). I remember reading references to this sort of feature being bloatware, etc?

The author of rhe NOD32 artworks is IMHO Juraj Maxon - quit popular artist specialised on sci-fi ilustrations. Some of his works have been reportedly seen in the ESET offices.....
