NOD32's anti-trojan capabilities

I have been using NOD32 for about a year and a half, and let's just say I'm a VERY HAPPY CAMPER. I use my computer to make a living, and NOD32 has kept it totally free of viruses, while not slowing my system down (important since I'm often working on a deadline). I have also recommended it to several of my friends (though I recommend AVG to those who are completely broke).

I am also using TDS-3 to pick up Trojans. I love the product (as well as the other stuff from Diamond), but it does really hog my computer while it's running. It seems to me that the latest versions of NOD32 have greatly improved its anti-Trojan capability. Is this so, and would it be possible for me to do TDS-3 scans less often as a consequence?

I guess that depends on how often TDS finds something and your surfing style. You could use TDS to only do demand scans once a week/month depending on how you feel about your safe surfing habits. Or switch to a less resource intense AT like Ewido. As for recommending AVG to your friends I think with version 7 they will not be offering a free version and support for 6 will stop at the end of this year. I am not sure of that but I think I read it in another post in the other AV section here at Wilders.

I realise this is somewhat off-topic, but BOClean works beautifully here as an anti-Trojan with NOD32 and has no noticeable effect on performance.

While NOD's AT capability has been improved, it cannot detect anywhere near as many trojans as TDS. As flyrfan111 suggests, a scan once a week/month with TDS would suffice depending on how many dodgy sites you frequent, and generally how much surfing you do.

I personally use TDS, although I agree it's a bit resource hungry. TDS-4 should resolve those problems but who know's when it might arrive (before the end of the 2004, I gather).

Failing that, I know people who use BOClean (it only gives real-time AT protection) coupled with NOD which doesn't slow down the system at all. Then you could use TDS for on-demand scanning, when required.

I currently use Ewido, though don't use the real time scanners as it too slows my system down, and I have a 3.0GHz Hyperthreaded CPU with 512MB 400MHz DDR RAM. So I use Ewido to run a scan once a month.

My surfing habits are such that I have no problem replying on Nod32, I do however have a few in the household that are click happy and try to put my security through its paces... ;) ;D

Well an update, I am now using the latest Ewido 3.0 with Guard (Ewido's realtime scanner), I haven't seen a slow down at all, rather impressive. I won't elaborate any further as we are in the Nod32 Support Forum.

I know this is the NOD forum and a bit OT, but any security conscious company won't deprive me the ability to ask you:

Is this because of an update to Ewido ? What's changed in Ewido (or anything else) ?

LOL, I wasn't ignoring you, I went for a swim at Wet and Wild here on the coast. What's changed is their version went from 2.0 to 3.0 and they made a vast improvement over the previous version. I no longer see the incredible slow down that I previously had.

Okey Dokey... Don;t rub though it in Blackspear! If I went to Wet & Wild over here, I think I could contest the Guiness World record for the longest nipples :o)

My current preference is for either NOD or KAV, LooknStop firewall, coupled with TDS (currently mostly for on-demand), Ad-Aware SE Plus (realtime and on-demand), Spy-Bot (on-demand), Process Guard and Worm Guard.

As you know, I've yet to make my mind up on whether my AV should be NOD or KAV.

Not True.

AVG is simply changing to version 7 for the free version
