Ace Utilities (http://www.acelogix.com/) is excellent. Does a great job & it's *idiot-proof* (as witness the fact that I can use it safely, without the foggiest idea of what I'm doing).

It isn't free, however.

:) Another good little free ware gem, I just remembered is RegSeeker. I obtained mine from http://www.majorgeeks.com. Hope it is still there, as I have had this around forever it seems.

Thanks

I like these:
- Ace Utilities
- RegSupremePro
- CCleaner
They're powerful, fairly safe to use, and any unwise actions are easy to reverse.

I also have RegSeek, and it's a powerful free utility, but it's quite capable of hosing your system if you just run it with all settings at default.

I use:

NT Registry Optimizer - to optimize my registry (free)
Extreme Power Tools - to clean Windows/my hard drives and my browsers/other programs ($99.00 at right place)
In Control 5/Total Uninstall - to monitor what installations do to my computer (both free, InCtrl5 works with XPT)
RegSeeker - to clean out my registry (free)
Power Defragmenter - does great job in defragmenting HDs, uses SysInternals engine (free)
SpinRite - great job of making old damaged disks like new ($90.00)

There are lots of choices but you pretty much need to make sure you cover:

Registry Cleaning/Optimizing
Disk Defrag
Cleaning up data left from Windows and other programs you may use

I'm sure I missed some, but those are the basics that I worry about.

I highly recommend NOT using Evidence Eliminator, but that is a personal choice.

Hello all,

I moved this thread from the other anti-virus software forum (where the subject Internet cleaning has little in common) to here where it is more appropriate and will get more response.

??? Some times I am a little slow on the thinking process. System Mechanic is very good, this however is not freeware and some what expensive if one decides to keep it. However one can use it for awhile on the trial bases. I don't remember where I obtained my copy from, but any good search engine should give you a hit.

Thanks
