View Full Version : How can I remove PCGaurd

PC gaurd has my computer under control. I want to delete the program but everything I do is not working.
I went in to add/remove, and it tells me part of the program is running.
Then I go to task manager to shut it down, and it is access denied.
So how does one remove the terrible program?

I felt the same way about Process Guard when I first tried it but now I consider it the best program on my PC and I know that it will protect me through thick and thin.
If you are having problems understanding something or getting it set up the way you want be a little patient because this program is really worth it. It is a very complex program under the hood but will protect your pc better than anything else on this planet.
The other day I had something try to close down my security software but PG couldn't be shut down and it protected my anti-virus from being disabled. I shudder to think what someone was trying to do to my machine but they failed because of Process Guard. Without PG my AV would have been disabled and then I would have been under assault without any defenses.
Try and persevere with yourself and you'll see that it's worthwhile.
Usually it can be uninstalled from the start/programs menu where there is an uninstall option. You should disable it and exit it from the system tray before uninstalling.

Hi WhiteCloud
1. RightClick on the PG icon on the systray and uncheck protection enabled.
2. Then do the same thing and click on exit.
3. Click on start>all Programs>ProcessGuard>Uninstall
4. Reboot
5. Assuming your running XP open windows Explorer and navigate to
C:\windows\system32 In this area you should find pguard.dat and phash.dat. Delete them. Also make sure procguard.dll is gone.
Get this far and report back and we can help you get a good install.
Question. Are you comfortable in using regedit.

PG30000 or above does not have phash.dat. Right?

I just upgraded to PG3050 by uninstalling PG3000. Phash wasn't found while PG3000 was installed. And now with 3050 installed, Phash was not found either. I did a search for Phash by unhiding all files on Windows XP SP2.
Hhhmmm ???

Hi wanchan,

Gotcha Nick. pghash.dat found here too, in C:\WINDOWS\system32.
When uninstalling PG3000, I first used the official Uninstaller in Windows Safe-Mode (although this wasn't necessary I did it anyway). After the Uninstall, I did search and all I could find and remove was pguard.dat in C:\WINDOWS\system32.
I am concerned if there anything else I should have manualy deleted but I didn't, and whether that will affect the stability of PG3050 I am using. New PG3050 is running for the past two days stably. Two days are a period too short to make sound judgement, I know.
Questions:
1. Anyone could kindly confirm if what I did with the uninstall of PG3000 was absolutely correct?
2. Is pghash.da present only in PG3050?

Sorry for the confusion with the missing "g". Both files have been present in the past several versions.
