Nod-32

Hello ,
I am a Nod 32 user on my home computer, in the last few weeks it has
been picking up a number of worm viruses coming into my PC such as
Brasil, Scr.Svr, etc. Last night whilst I was on the net, 7 came through,
Nod detected these, picked them up and cleaned, the deleted the files.
My question is doesEset software offer a firewall type program which will stop the viruses coming into my PC or can I use another firewall type product in conjuntion with NOD 32 to stop them coming in.

Esset does not offer firewalls yet.
I use Nod 32 + Zonealarm Pro and they work fine together. :D

IMHO, NOD32 is stopping viruses comming into computer by design - it is the purpose of an antivirus program. Firewall has another purpose - it allows effectively control access to/from computer to internet.
This could be partially effective against trojans...
But most vectors of virus/worm spreading - e-mails, web, ftp will go thru the firewall...

I suggest that you install a firewall that blocks incoming NetBIOS (from non-local network atleast).

You MUST also remove the share you have of C:. "Anyone" who knows your IP-address can probably read/copy/delete any of your personal files.

I have just experienced the same files coming through on a clients computer (Brasil, Scr.Svr, etc), OpaServ was so lovelly to bring these in, and once in they were an absolute PIG to get off. When viruses are suspected, we usually slave the infected drive off a clean protected system, and then let Nod rip on it. We then check with a 2nd virus scanning program (usually Norton) to be sure everything is clean.

In this case after the initial removal, and the all clear being given, we then ran the two OpaServ removal tools (www.nod32.com.au) and they also gave the all clear.

Then we did the following (sent to us by Rod):

Checked win.ini for any unusual references after run=

Checked registry and delete the values:
ScrSvr %windir%\ScrSvr.exe
and
ScrSvrOld <original worm name>
from the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Manually searched for and delete the files .....
scrsvr.*
brasil.*
marco*.*
put.ini
alevir.*
