Hi, everyone.

I just downloaded and installed the trial version of NOD32 and ran it. I have been trying to track down a problem on my system and had previously run Norton and Kaspersky. Both of these problems took over 24 hours to run, and Kaspersky says it processed 2,743,679 files (!).

NOD32 run four just two hours and 10 minutes, and the report says that it scanned just 158,763 files.

I didn't change any of the scanning objects, just ran it with the defaults.

Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Thanks.

I suggest you look at Blackspear's guide for maximum scanner settings. Number twelve deals with on demand scanning.

You won't get the enormous file count you get in some other scanners. Other scanners may count a zip file and each file there in as a separate file.

If you do an on demand scan, you can minimize the NOD window and keep working. It doesn't seem to affect the time it takes to scan in my experience.
The minimized window will give you the percent of scanning that has been completed.
