View Full Version : PG3 preventing second login

On my system (Win2K SP4), PG 3 Final locks up the system when trying to login for a second time - it allows Explorer to run but no other startup programs (the PG log just shows Userinit being allowed to run Explorer with no further entries). No programs can be run and while it is possible to try logging out via Ctrl-Alt-Del, this just results in a blank screen.
Disabling PG's protection removes this problem. I spent a few (well, several) hours disabling other startup programs (via MSConfig) as well but to no avail.

Hi P2K, I am wondering if this is a nit in the pgaccount.exe as I know that Jason spent a lot of time on it with regards to XP's fast user switching.
We will probably have to await a response from DCS on this one.
Sorry I cannot help. Pilli

Sounds plausible - hopefully DCS can shed some light on this. No need to say sorry though, no-one can solve every problem. :)

Try turning off Execution Protection (or possible not logging in and out :) ) and see if you still have the issue. I actually think I might know the cause of this issue, so I will have to get back to you on this one. But I do think it is related to execution protection and the service still thinking pgaccount.exe is there to Process Execution requests even though it has been terminated in previous log out.

Turning off Execution Protection does seem to avoid the problem. :)

Hi,
Interesting, I got a similar problem after upgrading ZAPro to the latest version, when using XProSP2.
As far as I know I followed procedures correctly, something like this -
I turned off Exec Protection
Uninstalled ZA Pro - rebooted
Clean installed ZAPro - rebooted
Turned on Learning -rebooted
Logged on as admin user, logged out , then logged on as a user
rebooted, logged in as admin user
turned off learning mode .
Logged out & logged in as a user, then it hangs before loading the desktop
& I have to reboot. :-\
I can only perform the secondary logon if I first disable execution protection.
this was still after enabling permit always to zlclient & vsmon & giving pgaccount program access in ZA .
there in nothing the log to indicate any error.

Just to update, PG 3.05 does fix this problem (though there is now an issue with pgaccount being reported as not running covered in another thread (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=55148)).
