I sometimes use Avant Browser 10 as my web browser and after installing PG3, I get an alert telling me "avant.exe was blocked from creating a global CBT hook" whenever I start Avant. Avant still seems to function OK, so should I allow it to create this hook ?

Hi Defenestration :).
If you have no problems not allowing the hook, it should be fine. Having said that, if you do run into any anomolies with Avant then just allow the hook in ProcessGuard. Many programs can try to set hooks etc, but will run fine most of the time if not allowed to.

Jade.

Hi Defenestration, I to use Avant on trusted sites:) and when beta testing an earlier version wrote to Avant to find out why Global hooks are needed, their reply was that it is to with "Mouse guestures" So I do not bother about allowing global hooks with Avant and have not noticed any detrimental effects. I suppose if you use the mouse guestures feature a lot there maybe there would be anomalies ;D

For everyone's information, this is no longer an issue with the latest version of Avant Browser 10.031 because the author has removed the need for a global CBT hook.

That was good of the author to do. Browsers in generally seem to play fast and loose with the system. I run Opera--generally a browser you'd think was lightweight--and it uses "global hooks", "install drivers" (don't ask me why), and "access physical memory" (again, don't ask).

Thanks for that information Defenestration, I have the latest Version of Avant and can confirm no alerts from PG regarding global hooks.
