I am browsing at the moment with NoTrax from Heidi.

it uses no java, active x, encrypted cache using blowfish, it uses no programfiles, no reg settings, ... ...

Even if you didn't use it for everyday browsing, it looks like it would be good for using to do online banking, etc.

Notrax offers a 10 day trial, after which it costs $25 to register.

I tried it.

_/ On the plus side - It's nice looking. Skinnable. Tabbed. Easy to navigate. Evidently does a good job of protecting one's privacy while surfing.

_/ On the *issues* side -

It's significantly slower than my current browser (Dorian's build of K-Meleon)

Only rendered the heading of Pitstop's page at HERE (http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp). It's a .asp page, so perhaps that is the reason?

I installed Notrax on my d:\ drive. NoTrax couldn't find its help file there at first. I told Notrax the location, & Notrax opened the first page of help. When I tried to go to another page of help, however, Notrax lost it again. A minor bug.

IMHO, Notrax is a nice browser for someone who is willing to sacrifice a bit of speed in order to gain the added privacy.

Another option -- FREE -- is the Off-by-1 Browser, which also is a stand-alone program that does NOT allow activeX or java. You can get it HERE (http://www.offbyone.com/).

Hi Bellgamin, I am writing this here with the k-meleon browser. damn, that is a fast one , you were right about that.

what do you know of maxthon? previous known as myie2...it is better then IE? but not as good as FFX?

Main reason why I didn't buy it was
it failed a browser security test.

I used Maxthon for several months, back when it was called MYIE2. Then I discovered Phoenix (later known as Firebird, now known as Firefox) & changed to that. Then I discovered K-Mel & fell in love with its speed & infinite tweaking possibilities.

MYIE2 was quite good when I was using it. As Q-section noted, it's an IE clone, but was, when I used it, waaaay faster than IE itself.

As for K-meleon -- even now that I am on broadband, there is a noticeable improvement in speed when using K-mel (with user.js properly tweaked, of course).

I agree about K-M ...I have it as my secondary browser. It is definitely fassttt. However, I heard the development has been stopped? Any info on that?

Not stopped. Development of K-mel is proceeding apace. Version 0.9 is now in beta 2 status. Check out the forum at HERE (http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/list.php?f=1).
