Hi, here is a link to a download of a free program called "Diagnose" it can give you details of most of the things on your pc, including ram and page file uaage.
A very handy tool, an might give a clue to what is happening on your system.

If you want to have a look at what is starting with windows go to START-RUN-TYPE " msconfig" press enter-STARTUP.
that is a list of the services that will start with windows.
As you are using Norton, I would guess that it is doing a memory scan when u start, this may be the reason for the change in Virtual memory used after a short time.

Hi Mr. Blaze,
Because I see this in your log:
O10 - Hijacked Internet access by New.Net
Gerard

is it evill

The Anti Spyware scanners wont detect it because it comes with software that has a EULA [end user license agreement]
Lavasoft [AdAware] has been to court over the matter, NEW.NET sued them.
To get to program files, go to MY Computer-dblclick on hard drive-open program files-if there is a folder called NEW.NET u can safely delete it.
Also cheek to see if u have any BHO [browser helper objects] Spybot will have 1 there and also Adobe. A good program to help u do this and also check & protect your start list is Winpatrol, there is a free ver.

Careful with New.Net.... improper deletion affects LSP it creates and will really screw up your system....

-{ Quote: "ok whats up i notice you and buba everytime kinda attack me kinda like sticklers first off i know the mods dont do hijack anymore" }-I am sorry you feel that way Blaze, but if I have offended you or attacked you in any way, please post links to those posts so the Admins can address them.
-{ Quote: "i know thers no support but this is tenford everything goes but porn and politics" }-Ten Forward is part of Wilders and all posting policies, guidelines, FAQ's and TOS applies.
-{ Quote: "if some one out of the kindness of there heart looks at my hijack report and says hey that thing there could be whats f'ing you up
what the hell is wrong with that" }-Nothing at all, as long as a HijackThis log (or any other log) has been requested to be posted by the appropriate person(s) as per this section of LowWaterMark's Announcement:
Please note that from time to time a HijackThis log may still be requested by a moderator (or specially titled forum expert) for use in other types of problem diagnosis. Only those logs requested by a Wilders team member will be worked on in forum.
-{ Quote: "i dont know what i did to pisst you off or even buba but what ever it was im sorry" }-There is no need to apologize, Blaze. You have not done anything that has offended me, and I am sure Bubba would say the same thing. But please understand we, as Moderators, do have board policies to uphold, and that goes for everyone....including myself. ;)
-{ Quote: "but usealy its you two" }-Coincodence I'm sure, and nothing else. I am sorry if you feel differently though.
-{ Quote: "but still i speak my mind" }-Nothing wrong with that as long as it isn't against TOS. ;) And we like you very much too, even though it may not look like it at times...it is true. :)

XP thinks that every bit of physical ram should be in use and not left idle, so it will always try to have as much of the running programs iin physical ram not on the page file
It thinks quite rightly that empty ram is wasted ram so it uses it
the system idle process is xp's way of keeping the cpu cool and under less stressby using it slightly
it should read as close to 100% as possible at all times unlesss you are using other applications
Don't worry about it you are perfectly normal and there is nothing wrong with the system
this is M$ explanation of it
System Idle Process - You cannot end this process from Task Manager.
• This process is a single thread running on each processor, which has the sole task of accounting for processor time when the system isn't processing other threads. In Task Manager, expect this process to account for the majority of processor time

Why do I not trust that HiJack page??!!! I don't know why - does anyone else have any idea??
BigBuck, have you used it with good results?
It makes me, well, I don't think I'll be in any hurry to use it. ???

I have a look occasionally.......but my system is usually fairly clean (TOUCH WOOD!).......I get a couple of 'possibly nasty's, but these are Autocad and Encarta or something like that.
I wouldn't bet my house on the results.....but it may good for some to try while they are waiting for someone to check their HJT log ?
Anyway....I thought it was quite a good link.
These are good reading too....

Yes, I like the second one, my computer doesn't like the first or maybe it has bad memories of AOL little guy running thru every nook and cranny of its system. It actually started to whine??!!
Thanks, BigBuck!
