What to chose

Need a littele advice in what solution to chose.
Ive heard a lot pro & cons regarding Norton & Mcafee and ive come to the result that they both are pretty good.
But what do you wise people think.
Norton internet security 2003, Mcafee internet s. 5,0 or perhaps Nod 32 +
Zonealarm.
Heard a lot of positives regarding Nod, but it is certainly not wellknown.
Heard about it a few days ago.

Regarding NOD32. The only "cons" regarding NOD32 are: limited unpacking engine and needs an additional anti-trojan software. But on the "pro" site: extreme fast scanning, excellent virus detection, very good heuristics. Therefore NOD32 beats NAV and of course NOD32 is cheaper. ;)

McAfee has a strong scanning engine but the program interface is real crap. McAfee is extremly slow and therefore I would suggest it only to use as an on-demand scanner.

For the personal firewall: for home users I would recommend not to use one except there is a real need. There is a lot of hype regarding personal firewalls these days but when it comes to the point what level of additional security they really bring it shows up that they are more or less useless.

Ole.That firewall page has a lot of good info on firewalls.I checked that out before I installed Sygate free edition firewall.There are some good choices that are free.In regards to an anti-virus program.I have NOD32 and I won't change.It may be a fairly new program,but don't let that deter you from checking NOD32 out.And the NOD forum is right here too!

Wizard, I thought that a firewall was a must have when you are conneceted
with broadband.
If you chose a free one ( ZoneA.) I cant see that any harms is done, or what??
BTW. Just installed the trailversion of Nod32, and yes it scans very fast.
Ive never seen anything like it.

No not necessarely. A firewall is a concept that helps you to split local area networks from other networks (e.g. Internet). If you have just one single computer connected to the internet a firewall is normaly not required.

Personal Firewall could add additional security leaks to your system. E.g ZoneAlarm Pro has a "Denial of Service Vulnerability".

Same with me and I tried quite a lot of antivirus software myself. :)

I personally would not surf without a firewall. I consider it to be a backup in my layers of defense.
I think it is important to choose the proper firewall and set it up properly.
I have seen many people get their first clue that they had a trojan by being notified by their firewall. I know a couple of people found they had bugbear because they noticed their firewall had been shut down.

Hi again.
Come to the conclution, that i stick with Nod32 + Zonealarm.
But unlike wizard I do like Mcafees interface very much. It is very slick & clean, but looks isnt everything.
Ive tried a littel test today. I tried the tests on PC Flanks homepage, and my system was absolutly safe.
Then I installed Mcafees Virusscan 7,0( it comes with a firewall), and then i ran the tests again. Perhaps i didnt configure it proberly( im not a newbie nor an expert).
There was so many holes in it that i was a littele schocked :o
Is Mcafees firewall really that bad?? ??? ???
If so , too bad cos i really like the looks of it 8)
But as i said before looks isnt everything.

Sorry a littel off topic again, but i have to send a apology to Mcafee.
When i tested their firwall, that comes with Virusscan 7,0 i forgot :-[ :-[
to activate it.
Therefore the bad result. It actually passed the tests very well indeed.
You are all allowed to laugh at me :-[
