Hi all,

I just finished re-installing Win XP on my test system, and was tightening the security by disabling some services and thought I would share some links about Win XP and Win 2000 Services. Win XP has some services that should be disabled but are set to start automatic by default ( Remote Desktop, Remote Registry ). By reading these links you will be able to better secure your Win XP and Win 2000 machines.

This link is for Windows XP:
http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/winxp_services/index.shtml

This link is for Windows 2000:
http://www.3dspotlight.com/tweaks/win2k_services/

I hope any XP and 2000 users that haven't checked their services will read these articles.

Loki,

Good post. I'm afraid so many don't know what to do when it comes to all the options and Windows defaults in XP and what is really necessary, etc. Here is a page that I think recommends a pretty good, decent "safe" default set for the Windows Services:

http://www.henrique.bucher.com/windows_services.htm

You can make the changes by simply going to start/run/services.msc

Hi luv2bsecure, JacK,

I already knew about blkviper but thought it was a little to involved for new users so I posted links that were easier and detailed for new users. But all the links and information about this is always helpful.

Thanks for your replies and good links ;D

Hi Bill....

Hope all is well with you!

Thank you for the extra links. A couple of those were new to me and I really liked that Doug Knox site. A lot of good, practical info and utilities.

Thanks again...

Have a good weekend,
John
