Updates size - 1mb ?

As I'm being bugged regularly at work for a recommened virus checker, I though I had found a stable/simple checker that did everything ... but for some reason none of the updates received in the last three weeks have been below 1mb. This seems at odds with the FAQ etc, and in an area that has little hope of getting lines over 56k (and realistically about 40k), 1mb takes around five minutes - not a good selling point for me when I want to get the users to update frequently. I'm using the minimum option, but still have large updates. Any ideas ?

Otherwise, the average is less than 100 kB.
