View Full Version : Serious bug in SpywareBlaster 3.2 & XP w/SP2

I was having a bad problem of some webpages not
displaying, and really bad crashes on SP2 which would
TOTALLY lock up IE and it would take a dozen attempts at
cont-alt-del to close the IE window (which in turn would
close ANY open IE windows as well). This unfortunately
was traced to SpywareBlaster; specifically the checkbox in
the IE area for "Prevent the installation of ActiveX based
spyware, dialers, etc.". Checking that box caused several
websites to not display ANY content, and sometimes
crash, and confusingly SP2 displayed ***WINDOWS
information*** about the block and what to do, and
absolutely NOTHING about SpywareBlaster came up! This
is why it took so long to figure out the cause of the
problem. If the creators of SpywareBlaster treat this as
they did with the serious slow down issues in loading the
program, enabling OR disabling protection (several posts
on that here), I doubt this will EVER get fixed. This new
issue circumvents the purpose of "SP2's better security
features" since you have to DISABLE some protection
features of SpywareBlaster!

I've changed security settings in Internet Options, and
that didn't help anything. It would take WEEKS to
individually check/uncheck each box listed in this specific
area of Blaster to find out exactlly which module/plugin is
causing the problem due to the "minutes to load or
enable/disable" anything issue. I tried to search the
registry for Blaster entries and its blocking tags, but they
are not in the registry! (So, where are they??) I was
going to try and selectively delete them from there since
that would be LOADS faster. Further complicating things
is the fact that what's in the Blaster list of blocked ActiveX
is NOT in alphabetical order!

Again this DOES NOT happen on SP1.

PLEASE guys, please come up with an update for this, as
well as the slow down issue.
Thank you.

I've attached a screen shot of an example of what Blaster
is causing. If you "view source" on that page, ALL of the
HTML code is there for the ACTUAL PAGE, and NOT for this
animation! It's some kind of an "overlay", yet
UNDERNEATH that overlay, IS the actual page!

Yes, with Blaster ACTIVE, it TELLS you to install
something! Yet with it INACTIVE, you get no prompt to
install anything! That's backwards, since nothing is
installed anyway when it's inactive!

Hi,

While I have not encountered any such issues, nor should there be any reason for such issues to occur, I'll need the following information to try to reproduce the problems:

-Any and all websites that you've visited that repeatedly cause the issue when SpywareBlaster is enabled. (Please disable the links - changing http to hxxp - so no one accidentally clicks on them.)

-A list of any and all security software you have installed on your machine.

If you feel uncomfortable posting that information here, you can always send an e-mail to bugreports@javacoolsoftware.com

Thanks,

-Javacool

Sent off-list, thanks. :)

You sure it's the SpywareBlaster on SP2? I have the same problem and it points directly to KernelFaultCheck %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k.
Same symptoms as yours.

Positive. ;) If you have the same problem, then what makes you think it's not Blaster? When you disable all Blaster protection, does the problem go away as it does in my case?

That "dumprep" is just a generic error dump, that happens with most any kind of XP errors (crashes, or system hangs). If you can find the file and read it, it might tell you something but they RARELY ever do.
