Geez people, NOD32 scans ALL of the files as default while it should only scan potentially dangerous ones + extensioneless, not pictures, videos, etc, that's a waste of system resources. Am I wrong?.

It depends on your point of view. Some see it as a waste of resources, some see it as extra protection.

there are malware threats that do corrupt pictures/videos, aswell as hidden extentions to files that u cant detect without the proper tools.
personally i have had an mpeg2 file with a hidden ext .IIV which contained a virus. better to be safe, the guys that make these nastie things are trying every way they can to get stuff on ur pc. its not so much the amatures that i worry about, but the professional programers etc, that write this sort of code for malicious purposes.

While I agree with the opinions already expressed, I think the key terms in your post are "as default."

It is possible to set the program to scan whatever you think is best, so if you're not interested in the extra file scanning, you can just turn it off. :)

BTW, lots of people have griped about the scanning settings being inadequately robust by default, so it just goes to show yet again that all the people can't be pleased all the time. ;D

Well, I want extra protection.I donīt think NOD steals resources.Take an example: 2 years ago, I worked in a company that we took care about 120 computers with Norton Antivirus. Some computers were connected to internet, some donīt.A lot of people there, just spent their time surfing the web, porno sites, etc. What happened ? Some computers were infected by a lot of virus, since NAV a resource eater, wasnīt set up to maximum power(Those I had setup, was in a maximum power), the virus has installed itself in a exclusion directory, and a lot of computers got virus.I have tested NAV 2005 only by curiosity, and I can tell you with sure, that NOD is and always will be the best choice.I scan all files set up to maximum power.
Iīm not a NOD32 expert, since I donīt know the difference between demmand scan and deep analisys, but all of them is setup to maximum, even if everytime I start deep analisys, I have to check all options again.I donīt mind doing this all time, but I know that my computer is virus free and my resources is always fine.

Maybe I can shed some light on ON-DEMAND scanner and In-depth scan. They are the same thing. It's just the In-depth has advanced heuristics enabled and On-demand doesn't.

I actually like it better that way, because if there was ever a FP with AH I wouldn't want my user to delete and cause more problems. I would rather I do a scan with AH, so I know better than to delete everything.

Thanks for your help.

I have my scanner setup to maximum and saved this way.
In depth I canīt save. Thatīs normal ?

What I think is happening is that it uses certain command line options all the time. So if you have it set for maximum than you really don't need to run in-depth. Maybe I'm wrong though, but don't think so.

It doesn't make sense to me, if there's a hidden extension (nothing is hidden as long as you have windows set to show extensions), it's 100% harmless, in fact, let's suppose the virus was binded within the pic, then it will have to have the executable extension and not the image's at the end in order to run. As getting infected this way wasn't hard enough, I delete anything that's corrupted or doesn't open at all.

You are correct Brian, In-depth Analysis is a set to maximum strength scan, an very easy way to scan at this strength. If you set "my profile" to maximum settings, it is virtually the same thing, other than you can tick "Deep" and "Emails", and by default In-depth Analysis scans "All" drives.

It is just a quick way for support to run a maximum scan without having to tell the user to go her, go there, tick this, tick that.

Cheers ;D

Hummm, so the best thing to do is to setup everything to maximum power, and save it as my perfil, using context menu too ?

Is that correct ?

Thanks,

DonKid.

Indeed it is. In-depth Analysis is a good feature for tech support to have a novice run.

After a person becomes acquainted with Nod32 and want to play a bit with settings, they can then alter "my profile" to their liking...

Hope this helps...
