What do you mean by safe. Saftey is pretty much up to you the person as I see it. Turn off the preview pane, dont open any and every email attachment

In most cleints you can do all of them things.

I use Calypso freeware (http://10xshooters.com/calypso-free/)

The newer version Courier (http://www.rosecitysoftware.com/courier/) is not freeware but you can give it a try.

If you want to see your mail on the server before you download, Popcorn is a handy program also.
No need to install, just create a folder, put it in there, and configure.
Freeware for one account.

Hya ronjor -

Seeing the mail on the server before downloading is a plus in any mail client I think. I'm finishing my trial of SecureBat Lite which also had this feature but costs a bunch more. :-\

Nice informative links you have there. :)
I also like to have my message and contact base secured through encryption. I feel safer knowing information won't be passed on to someone else.

Calypso has a feature to leave the mail on the server also. As well as an encrypted address book.

What do you mean steverio, are you saying that fox mail encrypts the contact list? Thundebird has and does email encryption by the way never heard of a program that encrypts the contact list.

Thanks iceni60. Since I just have one pop3 account, I just keep upgrading to the latest Popcorn.
It is great to have around.

fox mail? I haven't used this client or know quite why you brought fox mail up.

Yes, I use the EnigMail extension in Thunderbird. What I mean about encrypting a message and contact base is related to the files residing in the email program directory itself when you are not using them.

It's not eye candy like some others, but way safer. A ton of options also so take your time.

No Thunderbird is better. Foxmail does not protect you from web-bugs.

I'm thinking of switching to TB 0.8 now that they added the option of combining several POP accounts into one.
