If you live there or very near there, I could use some info from you.
I'm strongly trying to figure out a way to relocate to Asheville, NC and attempting to make most arrangements before my body travels there. Would really appreciate information on the best areas to live. I'm a Veteran and will need to use the VAMC, I am on limited income, I am totally disabled (a real drag), so I would like to know general locations and streets where there is a grocery store, drug store, and a few restaurants close by. Thank you for any info you can give and have a great day!

Do you live in or very near by Asheville, NC????? I don't want a resource center. I want to communicate with people living in or very near to Asheville, NC. Maybe I'm confused concerning your reply?

I gather your request is for information on suitable neighborhoods or housing types for disabled and limited income. Forwarded request to relatives, long time residents of Hendersonville/Asheville, will post replies as I get them. If you have any additional specific requirements, please post them.

In the meantime, some possible leads to pursue.

Old reliable "realtor.com" can help you get a general idea of the types of housing available as well as pricing. Going through the selection process helps you organize what you might want to look for.

Also a quick call to the VAMC might help get you started.

Here's the followup I promised - what our cousin in Asheville has to say;

*******
Greetings from the South!! Judging from our weather in the last week and
possibly this week, this guy may not want to move here. It has been
terrible. Now we are all attempting to cope with contaminated water.
Several of the main water lines ruptured causing the water to be
contaminated. Oh, well. I guess we'll survive.

The VAMC is located on the East side of town. We live South of Asheville
and have for the last 32 years. He was inquiring about grocery stores, drug
stores and restaurants. This is a tourist town so there are grocery
stores, drug stores and restaurants everywhere. It is very expensive to
live here, but I guess I would say least expensive part of town would be the
West of town. As in nearly every town these days, interstates connect all
sections of town.

*********

Also a little research link - the Rand McNally version helped me decide (and negotiate salary) on more than one job offer involving relocation...
