Hi Marja!
Hmm...I'm not too sure about that gateway....
Looks a bit threatening!!! :o
Suddenly, Io's craters started spitting sulfurous gases and fire was not far behind... We were forced to make a quick exit from the satellite. :(

GREAT BALLS OF FIRE, CAPTAIN!!!! :o :o
The crew NOT, I repeat, NADA, ready for that one!!!
Everyone was running around trying to get their weapons and tripping over picnic baskets!! It was a mess I tell you!! We MUST have a proper warning system, maybe Nadirah or Fire-Ant can come up with one??
Shorty is fit to be tied, he was with his .....uh....well, er... with... a new recruit, yea, that's the story! You should have seen the look on his face!!

Maybe so, BigC, but, some of us were not prepared!! Oddly enough the...er...uhm........new recruit seemed to be overly prepared! Maybe I better have a talk with Shorty!!

Sorry BigC, maybe the problem is with my crew. They have been keeping in touch with me, but, the whole story is sure to come out now!!
No reflection on your fine warning system, maybe I should have a warning system for my crew!!!! ;D

Hey Marja, I like the little puppy...Are you sure that the little Husky will appreciate the heat on board? ??? It is getting hotter and hotter now.... :(
Temperature on board: close to 120f. :P
The heat is boiling at us, it is becoming unbearable. In order to distract us from the pain of the heat we started a game trying to remember a score of verses and quotations... 8)
Captain: The golden apples of the sun?
Bigc:Yeats
Captain: Fear no more the heat of the sun?
Nadirah: Shakespeare of course!
Captain: Hmmm..."Cup of Gold"
Ronjor: Steinbeck
Bigc: The crock of Gold?
Marja: Stephens!
Ritaan: Captain! It is now 145F!!!
Captain to crew: We can't wait any longer. Quick, let's put our anti-heat shield into operation... Science officer Bigc, are you ready to activate it
now? ???

as time travelers here are some terms we should be famalier with
Timespeak
You and I know it as a time machine. Physicists, on the other hand, call it a "closed timelike curve."
absolute space: Newton's conception of the three-dimensional space in which we live as having a notion of absolute rest, and as having the property that the lengths of objects are independent of the motion of the reference frame in which they are measured.
absolute time: Newton's conception of time as being universal, with a unique, universally agreed upon notion of simultaneity of events and a unique, universally agreed upon time interval between any two events.
chronology protection conjecture: Stephen Hawking's conjecture that the laws of physics do not allow time machines.
curvature of space or spacetime: The property of space or spacetime that makes it violate Euclid's or Minkowski's notions of geometry; that is, the property that enables straight lines that are initially parallel to cross.
event: A point in spacetime; that is, a location in space at a specific moment of time. Alternatively, something that happens at a point in spacetime, for example, the explosion of a firecracker.
exotic material: Material that has a negative average energy density, as measured by someone moving through it at nearly the speed of light.
field: Something that is distributed continuously and smoothly in space. Examples are the electric field, the magnetic field, the curvature of spacetime, and a gravitational wave.
freely falling object: An object on which no forces act except gravity.
general relativity: Einstein's laws of physics in which gravity is described by a curvature of spacetime.
geodesic: A straight line in a curved space or curved spacetime. On the Earth's surface the geodesics are the great circles.
gravitational time dilation: The slowing of the flow of time near a gravitating body.
gravitational wave: A ripple of spacetime curvature that travels with the speed of light.
hyperspace: A fictitious flat space in which one imagines pieces of our Universe's curved space as embedded.
mouth: An entrance to a wormhole. There is a mouth at each of the two ends of the wormhole.
Newtonian laws of physics: The laws of physics, built on Newton's conception of space and time as absolute, which were the centerpiece of 19th-century thinking about the Universe.
perturbation: A small distortion (from its normal shape) of an object or of the spacetime curvature around an object.
Planck-Wheeler length: The Planck-Wheeler length (1.62 x 10-33 centimeters) is the length scale below which space as we know it ceases to exist and becomes quantum foam.
principle of absoluteness of the speed of light: Einstein's principle that the speed of light is a universal constant, the same in all directions and the same in every inertial reference frame in the absence of gravity.
quantum foam: A probabilistic foamlike structure of space that probably makes up the cores of singularities, and that probably occurs in ordinary space on scales of the Planck-Wheeler length and less.
quantum gravity: The laws of physics that are obtained by merging ("marrying") general relativity with quantum mechanics.
quantum mechanics: The laws of physics that govern the realm of the small (atoms, molecules, electrons, protons), and that also underlie the realm of the large, but rarely show themselves there.
reference frame: A (possibly imaginary) laboratory for making physical measurements, which moves through the Universe in some particular manner.
relative: Dependent on one's reference frame; different, as measured in one frame which moves through the Universe in one manner, than as measured in another frame which moves in another manner.
simultaneity breakdown: The fact that events which are simultaneous as measured in one reference frame are not simultaneous as measured in another frame that moves relative to the first.
singularity: A region of spacetime where spacetime curvature becomes so strong that the general relativistic laws break down and the laws of quantum gravity take over. If one tries to describe a singularity using general relativity alone, one finds (incorrectly) that tidal gravity and spacetime curvature are infinitely strong there. Quantum gravity probably replaces these infinities by quantum foam.
spacetime: The four-dimensional "fabric" that results when space and time are unified.
spacetime curvature: The property of spacetime that causes freely falling particles that are initially moving along parallel world lines to subsequently move together or apart. Spacetime curvature and tidal gravity are different names for the same thing.
spacetime diagram: A diagram with time plotted upward and space plotted horizontally.
special relativity: Einstein's laws of physics in the absence of gravity.
tidal gravity: Gravitational accelerations that squeeze objects along some directions and stretch them along others. Tidal gravity produced by the moon and sun is responsible for the tides on the Earth's oceans.
time machine: A device for traveling backward in time. In physicists' jargon, a "closed timelike curve."
warpage of spacetime: Same as curvature of spacetime.
world line: The path of an object through spacetime or through a spacetime diagram.
wormhole. A "handle" in the topology of space, connecting two widely separated locations in our Universe.

Now we're about to time-phase out but I can see
a black hole in the distance...hmmm we'd better not fall
into it...Apparently it would be very difficult to escape....
light itself cannot escape.....
"...A black hole is a region of spacetime from which
nothing can escape, even light." :o
Nevermind, we've got all circuits checked and we might
replace some of them with self-regulating egocentripetal

and inductance so as to generate a smooth course. 8) ;D

Looking at the manual Captain, I come up with this. What do you think?
The most famous of Einstein’s equations, E=mc2 says that energy (E) and mass (m) are equivalent. In other words, mass can be converted to energy and vice versa. The conversion factor is the speed of light (c) squared, an enormous number when you consider that the speed of light itself is a whopping 186,000 miles per second.
This means that a small amount of matter can be transformed into a huge amount of energy. That’s the secret of stars, where high temperatures and densities permit lighter atoms to fuse into heavier ones. Each heavy atom weighs less than the combined weight of the lighter atoms that formed it, and that difference in mass becomes the energy that keeps stars shining. The process also works in reverse: Energy can be transformed into mass. Cosmologists think that’s how the matter in the universe arose—in the first second following the Big Bang, photons of incredible energy collided with one another, creating pairs of particles and antiparticles.
Hawking (http://www.pbs.org/wnet/hawking/strange/html/emc2.html)
Uguel707
February 1st, 2005, 11:55 PM

We will have to somehow manage to dodge those "photons of incredible energy" when we do our site-seeing tour of the Big Bang!

We join our favorite boys in the shuttle bay trying to cook their dinner over a makeshift campfire. Larry comes through the door carrying what looks vaguely like a bottle of ketchup.....
Moe: "Hey What ya got there Muttonhead, Ketchup?"
Larry: "Nah, Dynamite. Ya said something about a "Big Band".
Moe: "Not that kind of bang ya idiot. ~slap~ We're going to the creation of the universe. You know, when life began."
Curly: "My life began when mom and dad were in the garden. They said they found me under a turnip leaf. Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk."
Moe: "And you got turnips for brains." ~poke~
~Larry puts his finger in Moe's face~
Larry: "Hey, you leave him alone!"
~Moe bites Larry's finger causing him to drop the dynamite~

If you look real close- you can see the Black Hole.
This image taken by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope
shows in unprecedented detail the galaxy Centaurus A's
last big meal: a spiral galaxy seemingly twisted into a
parallelogram-shaped structure of dust. Spitzer's ability to
see dust and also see through it allowed the telescope to
peer into the center of Centaurus A and capture this
galactic remnant as never before. An elliptical galaxy
located 10 million light-years from Earth, Centaurus A is
one of the brightest sources of radio waves in the sky.
These radio waves indicate the presence of a
supermassive black hole, which may be "feeding" off the
leftover galactic meal.
FEEDING!!! THAT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE ANY MEAL I WANT TO BE A PART OF!! NO WAY, JOSE!!! CAPTAIN, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO???!!!

SHORTY, BE SERIOUS, I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE HUNGRY, WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE BLACK HOLE GETS TO EAT AND YOU DON'T?!? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? HERE, EAT SOME OF BJ'S FLIES, THAT SHOULD HOLD YOU! THEN GO CALM SOME OF THESE HYSTERICAL TRAVELERS!! HUNGRY, INDEED, THO, I DID SEE SOME CHEESE AT PEACHES, AND IT IS PRETTY DARK, MAYBE..................
MEANWHILE, THE DRONING OF A BATTERY POWERED TAPE .........
The "Cores to Disks" Spitzer Legacy team is using the two
infrared cameras on NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope to
search dense regions of interstellar molecular clouds
(known as "cores") for evidence of star formation. Part of
the study targeted a group of objects with no known stars
to study the properties of such regions before any stars
have formed. The first of these "starless cores" to be
examined held a surprise: a source of infrared light
appeared where none was expected. The core is known as
L1014, the 1,014th object in a list of dark, dusty "clouds"
compiled by astronomer Beverly Lynds over 40 years ago.
These have proved to be homes to a rich variety of
molecules and are the birthplaces of stars and planets.
WAIT, DO BATTERIES WORK IN A BLACK HOLE, WOULDN'T THERE BE NO ENERGY ANYWHERE? WHERE IS THAT VOICE WITH ALL THE ANSWERS COMING FROM?? BUT NO TIME FOR MYSTERIES NOW..........PANIC HAS SET IN...SOME OF THESE PEOPLE HAVE NEVER BEEN IN SPACE!!

We must do something to cut the tension, Captain, the passengers are getting worried and scared. There is a passenger that Shorty has been having trouble with too. She made him lug 25 suitcases on board, then bring her meals in the stateroom and even serve her!
Captain, I wouldn't eat anything Shorty delivers when he is mad!! He has been known to put kibbles in the Cheerios! Er... Not yours, First Mate Ronjor Zorro! Other....people, just because Shorty is very small, people try to take advantage of him!

SOMEWHERE DEEP IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SHIP (:P), THERE IS A DRONING VOICE -
Sometimes, the best way to understand how something works is to take it apart. The same is true for galaxies like NGC 300, which NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has divided into its various parts. NGC 300 is a face-on spiral galaxy located 7.5 million light-years away in the southern constellation Sculptor. This false-color image taken by the infrared array camera on Spitzer readily distinguishes the main star component of the galaxy (blue) from its dusty spiral arms (red). The star distribution peaks strongly in the central bulge where older stars congregate, and tapers off along the arms where younger stars reside. Click to enlarge....

Oh, BigC! We wouldn't do anything like that! It's that droning voice with a kinda mettalica tang to it, we just can't find out where it is coming from or what it is!
It seems to be coming from the vents, so it travels all through the ship, we really have looked, sir! But with Shorty down the hatch I am quite short handed!!
NO FEAR, Science Officer, we love our ship! She is your vessel and quite a beauty she is! Maybe I will send out another search party to look for the voice's owner - we seem to be quite short handed what with Movie Stars, Peaches' missing cheese and Rita's missing cheese doodles! Quite unusual!!
We will make some nice lemonade and iced tea for everyone, they are so scared and worried about surviving the Black Hole!
I still don't see how the Captain can make a call through a Black Hole?? Do You?

Now it is possible that it is the sound of the crystals going into harmonics. When it does that it means that the crystal equalizers are working perfectly. sometimes it even sounds as if there is a woman singing down a long tunnel. Or we could just have a stow away.either way we had better find out so we can sleep easier.

A supercomputer-produced cross-section of part of the universe shows galaxies as brighter dots along filaments of matter, with a sea of dark energy filling in between the galactic islands.

From somewhere deep in the spaceship.........
DARK ENERGY-
The simulation results predicted expansion speeds three to seven times faster than those detected by astronomers.
It was only when Governato and his research team incorporated dark energy into the initial conditions of their simulation model and to the equation that regulates the expansion of the universe, that they were able to closely match the observed expansion speeds of galaxies nearby.
"Adding dark energy changes the equation that describes the speed at which the universe expands with time and the growth of density perturbations," Governato told SPACE.com.
But, the scientists at the Instituto Nazionale diFisica Nucleare are not convinced -
Riotto and a team of theoretical physicists in the US and Canada say there’s no need to add dark energy as a new ingredient to explain the increasing speed of universal expansion.
"Our solution to the paradox posed by the accelerating universe relies on the so-called inflationary theory, born in 1981," Riotto proposed last week. According to this theory, the universe went through a period of exponential expansion in the moment immediately following the Big Bang. During this expansion, tiny ripples in space-time, much like those produced by a rock thrown in a pool, were produced.
With a universe that is infinite, these ripples continue to stretch and grow with expansion and over time are causing cosmic acceleration.
New York University physicist Georgi Dvali sees the answer in yet another theoretical phenomenon: leaking gravity.
His hypothesis relies on string theory, which states that there are extra, hidden dimensions beyond the three directions and time. In such a case, gravitons, hypothetical elementary particles transmitting gravitational forces, may escape to other dimensions. This, Dvali explained earlier this year, would cause "leaks" in gravity over cosmic proportions, reducing gravitational pull at larger distances, altering the space-time continuum and effectively speeding up universal expansion.
The answer appears as far away as the stars for now as theorists and observational astronomers grapple with one of the toughest questions on their agenda.

Well, that voice sure knows alot about space, it almost sounds like it is lecturing, is there a teaching program built into the ship? Could it be malfunctioning? It comes and goes, at the strangest times! Usually around breakfast, late afternoon and at lights out???
I guess I had better go down the tubes and see if Shorty got out of the garbage tubes all right! Why he ever jumped down there I will never understand!!
OH NO! There is that Movie Star Suga Bella again, looking like she thinks she is at the beach!! I'm outta here!~shaking head in annoyance at the self centeredness of celebrities~

Captain!! Captain! No wonder you can't reach the professor! There is lots of exciting news coming from that voice! It is telling about the mini big bang AND that two different scientific communities have actual proof of two planets just discovered - like Earth!! It has everyone buzzing and speculating! This is HUGE, Captain!! I don't even care about the voice now, two planets just like Earth....well, closer than we have ever been!! Listen...............This the news from the scientific observatory in..............................~static~............Darn! ..........This....~static.....thus recreating this .......
Recreating this primordial soup is the primary purpose of the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory. After five years of data, it appears as if RHIC may have succeeded.
But a big mystery looms over the detection: the putative plasma explodes more violently than predicted.
"We expected to bring the nuclear liquid to a boil and produce a steam of quark-gluon plasma," said John Cramer from the University of Washington. "Instead, the boiler seems to be blowing up in our faces."
The explosive result, which goes by the name of the HBT puzzle, may call into question what RHIC is making in its high-speed collisions, or it might mean the theory needs retuning.

Besprinkling the center of the Orion nebula is the Trapezium -- a group of four bright stars. This infrared image also shows many young stars surrounding the Trapezium that are actually embedded in the molecular cloud behind the nebula.
Here is the short take on the news sweeping the scientific and soon every community..........unless it is hushed up!
GLOW OF ALIEN PLANETS DETECTED IN "MILESTONE OBSERVATIONS"
22 March 2005
The glow of planets outside our solar system have been spotted in the first direct detections of light emitted by alien worlds.
The two planets were detected in infrared light, an emission of heat that is not visible to the human eye. There are no conventional photographs, but astronomers are ecstatic nonetheless.
The gas giant worlds, each around a different star, were discovered previously by noting the gravitational wobbles they induce in their host stars -- an indirect method. Both are roughly Jupiter-sized and hot, orbiting very close to their stars. Each completes a "year" in less than four days.

Well, Captain, what do you think about that news? I know, I know, you want me to find out where that voice is coming from and I will! It is just that this is a milestone, it is exciting news, Captain, but I don't think I want to live a year in 4 days!! :o I barely have enough time as it is!! LOL!
Surely, your professor will get in touch, if only to tell you the news, it is the most exciting news in decades!

~Moe and Larry come walking around the corner to find Curly singing~
Curly: "La De De Da Da Da Da"
Moe: "Hey, whatcha doin' nitwit?"
Curly: "I'm singin'."
Moe: "Allright." ~Moe puts his fists on his hips~ "What made you so happy?"
Curly: "I'm not singin' cuz I'm happy, I'm singin' so I don't have to listen to the voices."
Moe: "What voices?"
Larry: "Oh Oh. I bet he's got them voices in his head again."
Moe: "Nah there ain't nuttin' in his head." ~Moe pats Curly on the top of his head~
Curly: "Why sointenly. Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk. No really Moe. I hear them more than ever now."
Moe: "Well what are they saying?"
Curly: "Well it sounds like a girls voice calling for help."
Larry: "A girl? Ahh. You're always thinkin' of girls."
Moe: "Well when did this start?"
Curly: "A couple of hours ago. Sugabella and me were walking around the ship. After walking for a while, she said she was thirsty. So I gave her a glass of green kool-aid."
Moe: "Now where on earth did you get green cool-aid?"
Curly: "I found it sitting on the table in the galley."
Larry: "Hey, I saw that. That was a special energy drink that the Captain made for CartoonBoy. He was supposed to drink that so we wouldn't fall into the blackhole."
Curly: "Ohhhhh. I wondered why it had so many bubbles."
Moe: "What happened then?"
Curly: Well she took a drink and said it didn't taste very good, so I put some sugar in it."
Moe: "What sugar?"
~Curly reaches into his pocket and pulls out some sugar cubes~
Moe: "Hey dummy! ~slap~ That's not sugar! Those are Exciter Crystals. They belong in the ships reaction chamber. Touching those is like messing with dynamite. And you said she drank that?"
Curly: "Yea Moe. Then I turned around to get me a glass of water. And when I turned back around, Suga was gone. And that's when I started hearing the voices."
Moe: "That's Suga's voice you been hearin' dummy" ~slap~
Larry: "Yeah. You probably sent her into some kinda time warp, and made her invisible too."
Curly: "What are we gonna to do Moe? We can't just leave her there."
Larry: "Yeah where ever there is."
Moe: "Shhhhh!!!! Hey I hear her too. Well if I can hear her, the others can too. I don't know what to do, but we're not going to tell the Captain. I'm sure bigc can figure something out. And as for you! I'm glad I ain't gonna be in your shoes when they get her back. She's liable to beat you like poundin' a tortilla on a flat rock."
Larry: Yeah. She's gonna beat you up! Nah!!!!" ~Larry sticks his tongue out at Curly~
Moe: "Did I say anything about needin' your help?" ~slap~
Curly: "Ummmm---Food. Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk.'
Moe: "Shadup" ~slap~

Curly: "Well I get messed up when I drink that fizzy stuff too. The fizzy makes me dizzy. Hey!! I made a rhyme. Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk."
Moe: "Shadup." ~slap~ "How we gonna get her back inside the ship? Hey I know. Hey you dunces, take off your belts before I give you some belts!"
~Larry and Curly give the belts to Moe~
Moe: "Larry you tie 'em together. And you, dunderhead. Go find me a long rope. These belts ain't gonna be long enough by themselves. Tie one end of the rope to something that ain't gonna move, and bring the other end here. And hurry up about it."
Curly: "OK Moe."
~Curly runs into the galley, and starts going through the cabinets~
Curly: "Ohhhhhh there's some rope."
~Curly ties one end to the leg of the table that has a box sitting on it with Captains birthday cake inside~
~Curly runs back to Moe~
Curly: "Here Moe. I found some."
Moe: "Good work kid. Did you tie off the other end?"
Curly: "Yeah, I tied it to a big table."
Moe: "OK. Lets see if we can resque Suga. Larry, you tie this end to the belts. You guys hang on to something. When I open this hatch, everything that ain't nailed down is gonna get sucked out."
~Moe, Larry, and Curly all grab on to the pipes by the hatch. A giant whooshing sound is heard as the hatch opens. A crashing sound is heard behind them. Larry turns around and screams~
Larry: "LOOK OUT!!!!!!"
~The now flying galley table jams sideways in the galley hatch, the cake comes flying off towards our boys and smashes all of them in the face~
Curly: "Ummmm----Cake. Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk."
