I recently purchased Disc Director and tried to install OS selector. After the first part of the install is completed it asks you to restart your PC to complete the install. When the PC re-boots it hangs at screen with a blue background that says "processing please wait" Note that I have two IDE controllers. A promise ultra133 tx2 and on the motherboard a nvidia nforce2 ata controller (v2.5). I am using drivers provided by promise (version: 05/16/2003, 2.0.0.43) and nvidia (version: 4.24). I am not using Microsoft's ide driver. I am running Win XP. The problem occurs both with SP1 and SP2. I have disconnected all my drives except one hard drive and have tired using both controllers (one at a time) but I can not boot my PC into Windows after I install OS selector.

Acronis has been looking into this problem for me for over a month now but they have not made any suggestions.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Vance Dailey

I have the same problem and was wondering if you found a solution in the meantime.

Would appreciate a quick feedback.

Hello olio,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Director Suite (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/).

We are really sorry for the inconveniences.

Could you please insert a diskette into the floppy drive and run the file available by the link below?

http://www.acronis.com/files/support/mbrautowrite_en.exe

Once the floppy is written, boot the computer from it and confirm that you want to fix the master boot record (MBR).

Thank you.

Hello Andrew
I have not had to use mbrautowrite yet but it be a good idea to incorporate this into your software so that this floppy can be created from OSS, TI etc. when needed. Is that possible?
Thanks
John

This is certainly possible and I have forwarded your suggestion to our Development Team.

Is there a version of the AutoMBR that creates a bootable CD-Rom?
My computer does not have a disk drive anymore.
Could the MBR also be fixed in the Recovery Console of Windows?

Thanks

Hello suneberg,

You can return the MBR to the initial state using Windows Installation Disc: boot your computer from Installation Disc into Recovery Console and run "fixmbr" command.

You can also create a special CD with 'mbrautowrite' utility using this special .iso file:

http://www.acronis.com/files/support/mbrautowrite_en.iso

You can read how to record a CD with an ISO image at the following pages:

http://trb.org/publications/burning_iso.html
(Nero Burning ROM and Roxio Easy CD Creator)

http://members.home.nl/lsnoek/iso.htm
http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm
(other applications)

Once the CD is written, boot the computer from it and confirm that you want to fix the master boot record.

Thank you.

A friend downloaded the trial version of Disk Director and experienced the same problem: on installation the computer hangs after rebooting.
I inspected his BIOS settings and found virus function enabled. After disabling it, the problem was solved.
Never enable the BIOS virus function ! ;D
