Kerio firewall

Hi all !!
I've noticed that their isn't much discussion here about Kerio FW.
Anybody at this forum use it ?
Any comments ?
It's one I haven't tried yet !!

The GUI looks similar to Sygate !!

Yes, i used it for a looong time and in my opinion as far as a free firewall it cannot be beat. I even used it way back in the Tiny days. It always passed all tests (including stealth) and all leaktests (if it did not an update was always on the way in a short amount of time.)

I made the decision not too long ago to purchase Look'n'Stop based primarily on the following reasons: 1.) very small footprint 2.) excellent support via Frederic and Phantom at Becky's ( http://www.morelerbe.com/cgi-bin/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=35&DaysPrune=1000 ) 3.) and just IMHO it is the best "paid for" firewall out there.

So in conclusion, if you want the best (or as others may say, one of the best ;D ) free firewalls around, give it a try!!!

Although there may not be much discussion here on Wilders, it is a very popular rule based firewall and likely used by many posters here.

The times I have looked at it, I found it to be very effective and easy on resources. A new versions is currently being beta tested and along with improvements, includes some level of component control as well.

Well worth a look if you are not committed to something else, or just wanting to explore alternatives.

I never used Kerio, but I know enough about it to say I recommend it as one of the viable candidates for number 1.
While we are on the subject, I would like to say I believe the following firewalls afford great protection for users that know how to set that particular firewall up with optimised rules.

Sygate
Tiny
ZA for people that want basic protection without much control over how the firewall behaves. It is still an effective firewall when used properly.

I have been using it for about a year now(I also started back when it was Tiny). I love it. I agree that it is the best free rule-based firewall.

From memory I think it was usually around 4.5 - 5 MB on my W2K system.

I really like Kerio PF 2.1.4. ::)

I have a somewhat complicated setup including VPN to my PC at work. A number of the popular firewalls that I've tried just don't work for me and had to be removed:

Sygate PF - white desktop, loss of whole Favorites folder >:(
LooknStop - general instability >:(
Kerio Beta 3 - can't connect over VPN :-[

Kerio 2.1.4 is a real trooper and very easy to make rules for. :)

I would not recommend KPF v3Beta if not on a test machine.

Still different problems.

Give a try to the last final 2.1.4, among the best FWs.

Kerio uses 5,620 K of memory on my XP Pro OS... ;)I'm very satisfied!!!

Definitely! I find it to be an excellent firewall...very effective, yet light on resources. :)
