I need to disable my VP temporarily to do a thorough ScanDisk for Microsoft. I'd like to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling if possible. ScanDisk doesn't like VP being present and keeps restarting. Can I disable it for the period of the scan and then enable it again. I can't work out how to do it.

Just run Scandisk in Safe Mode, saves lots of hassle.

You can use "EndItAll 2" to close down any or all background apps with one click. Its handy when running scandisc, defragging, installing/uninstalling, burning etc.
It`s on the pcmag site:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1935,00.asp You`ll need to register here to download it though.
You should be able to find an alternative download via google (if you don`t want to register at pcmag).
Cheers,
