Why is NOD32 so bad rated ? Could this test be wrong ?

It sure could be wrong. It could be anything for that matter. Just another opinion from who knows what????

So NOD32 has a detection rate as good as Kaspersky's if configured properly ?

the test is kind of old and i won't be surprised if some of the products which scored badly make a comeback. even if you configure correctly the detection rate of NOD32 will be different. thats because NOD32 follows the *refined* way of adding signatures into their database. you shouldn't be worried if you practice safe hex.

That's nod version 1.5 anyway - even if the test was perfect, regular users have 1.8.

This is done after you configure everything you can for maximum protection and thorough scanning from the interface of all the modules.
open regedit
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Eset
go to edit->find
select "values" and "data" boxes only
type enable
press F3 until the active key(see the status bar) is Scanner
if the dword value is 0, change it to 1 (you can ignore the "sound_enable" dword values if you want)
after this, never access the settings for the modules(except NOD32 scanner) in the interface; if you do change something, values may change to 0 again; to be sure, once in a while repeat the process if you change any settings from the interface

Does this make any sense ?

Nigel Cook(Eset) said advanced heuristics wasn't implemented in Amon and changing the registry value(adv_heur_enable) to 1 for Amon module will not activate it.

Anyway manipulate registry is not that good idea. Imagine proggy could come to conclusion its setting has been tampered and will use default configuration.... :lurking: :lurking:

The dude who performed the tests did it in rather moronic way to be honest....

It's methodology was a bit flawed - eg. "The 58306 virus samples were chosen using VS2000 according to Kaspersky, F-Prot, RAV, Nod32, Dr.Web and McAfee antivirus programs. Each virus sample was unique by virus name, meaning that AT LEAST 1 antivirus program detected it as a new virus.
In plain text if one of these proggies triggered false possitive, the file was included in test set and the result of other programs (without this one FP) was evaluated as MISSED VIRUS.....

Good to know because NOD32 is my favorite antivirus;
Kaspersky Personal Pro 5 is comming in september along with the next version of NOD32. Competition is good.
