Why doesn't Spyguard stop intrusions

I recently installed SpywareGuard 2.2 on a trial basis.
I run Ad-Aware SE on a daily basis, today it found two intruders (bravenet.com & metriweb.be). Why were these not blocked by Spyguard?
Am I doing something wrong, got incorrect settings somewhere or have I somehow got hold of the wrong end of the stick?

Just to make sure....you are speaking of Spyguard(ver 2.0)....or are you speaking of SpywareGuard(ver 2.2) ?

These are two completely different applications/programs. One is called "SpyGuard" and the other is a Javacool software application called "SpywareGuard." I think SpyGuard is only available in version 2.0 so I figure you mean SpywareGuard - moving to Javacool section.

Did Adaware refer to these intruders with any more info like....Tracking Cookie\Data miner , Browser helper object....etc... ?

Ooops! Yes you are correct it is called SpyWare Guard 2.2. Must be getting OLD

Yes Bubba, again you are correct. Ad-Aware SE did report that two objects were found and it went on to say they were Tracking Cookies/Data Miners and went on to remove them, here is an extract from my quarantine log

In a way I was hoping tracking cookies is what you were referring to and while SpywareGuard does a fine job in what it is designed to monitor....tracking cookies is not one of the items.

Yes....tracking cookies/data miners are very much considered spyware. ;)


BUT....guarding you from Spyware....tracking cookies/data miners ....is not a feature in SpywareGuard.

Right - that's more of SpywareBlaster's arena. SpywareGuard is aimed more at browser hijacking applications and such things, I do believe.

Hello Old Nick [sounds like my father Devil Senior ;D] welcome to forums.

Just to clarify a bit further with Tracking/DataMining Cookies for you in case you are wondering.

They are like someone peering into your window and taking notes on your movements, as opposed to, say, Coolwebsearch Malware which actually breaks into your home and vandalises it horribly.

Even though they are spyware in the true sense, they are considered very very minor to the things SG and SpywareBlaster protect you against as in Homepage Hijacking, 'drive-by' ActiveX downloads, etc.
