please help

i am having a problem with my pc shutting off when i do certain things, like run spybot or things like that, i was in here earlier, but my pc was messing up and i could not return to my post, so i am sorry to anyone that responded to me cause i surely was not egnoring them. i have an xp and i am wondering if my memory or lack of is the problem of me shutting down, but i can not find where to see how much memory i have left, can someone help me please!!!! :'(

Hi mhorn74,

Well I can help with the easy part. ;)
In WinXP to see how much memory you have left.
Bring up the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt +Del.
Click on the Performance tab.
Near the middle bottom half in the area named Physical Memory (K), it will show you the Available memory you have left.

The Processes tab is also very handy because it shows you the percentage of CPU each program uses if you click the CPU heading, it will sort the column by the biggest CPU consumers. This can help you isolate CPU hogs or programs that freeze up. You can terminate the offending programs from here as well.

i did what you said and when i press ctrl,alt, delete it only gives me end task,new task, and switch to no where does it say what you were telling me unless i am doing something wrong.

You are running Windows XP right?
If yes, then you are on the applications tab of the task manager.
Look near the top of the window, you should see Application, Processes, Performance, Networking, Users. Those are tabs.
Just click on the Perfomance tab.

I highlighted the performance tab that you need to click.
If you have XP Home, it may be different?

You can also try Process Explorer (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml). Download link is near the bottom of the page. Unzip it to a folder of your choice. Double-click procexp.exe to start it and post a screen capture of the output.

Then mhorn74 should be able to see the same thing. Unless there is some kind of weird theme or something that alters the task manager. Never heard of anything like that though.
