Windows XP Battens Down Hatches

With the latest update to Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)'s Windows XP operating system, personal computers will soon join parents, bosses, teachers and spouses as a source of nagging in your life. But as mom always said, it's for your own good.

You'll get nagged at startup if you're not running an antivirus program or it's out of date. You'll get a warning if a firewall isn't turned on. Other messages pop up when you try to download, install or run software from that sea of malware called the Internet.

Made a good read. Unfortunately, I will have to wait until I get a CD. No way will I dl on dialup. Plus, I hate autoupdating, *that* one will always be off to me, I much prefer checking myself and reading thru.

The cd would probably be a good idea anyway. Comes the day you have to do a reinstall, it would be much easier.

I've been patching XP since the day I got it.

Somewhere in the past I remember Bill Gates saying "the most secure operating system ever".

So much for that statement! :D

Hey, M$ also claims that XP is the fastest version of Windows... Tell that to a Pentium 3 box. :P

XP is only considered fast on a 1GHz and faster pentium 4 processor. Microsoft is using SP2 to cover up all the security vulnerabilities and holes in XP.
