Since the 10-16 update - I am getting the following error message:

Recent is a windows system folder and is required for windows to run properly it cannot be deleted.

Is there something in the 'wording' that directs the deletion of the entire folder -- rather than the 'contents' of the folder ???

I don't know if it is important to know - but, I am running win98se.

I have no idea what I should do now ???
Please advise.

That's strange indeed.

I'm running Win 98 SE as well, and just now tried the same thing .

I set it to clean the Recent folder as well, and ran the Scan.

It ran OK, but after clicking Clean Now and having (as I thought) MRU blaster delete everything, the files in my recent folder still turned out to be sitting there.

I launched MRU blaster once more, this time it indeed pinpointed the Recent folder to be cleaned once again, but this second time I got the exact same error you got.

So two things:

1) On the first run it does indicate the REcent folder needs to be cleaned, but it skips it.

2) On the second run it gives "Recent is a windows system folder and is required.....", so it indeed appears to target the folder instead of its contents.

Thanks for letting me know that it is not just my machine!

Perhaps Javacool will be along soon and give us a fix!

I posted over in SI too - I wanted to see if I was the only person to have received the error - so, perhaps someone will figure this out before long.

Apologies for the late reply.

Yes, this is an error - that occurs on Windows 98 and ME systems (deletion of the "recent" folder contents is disablecd by default, however). It should be fixed in the next update. :)

For now, you can just exclude it from scanning in the settings window.

Interesting (I had not observed this on Windows 2000 - will go check again shortly).

In any case, the latest database update (to come out soon) should fix it. :)
UPDATE: Database update is out (10/18/02).

Thanks for the new version. :)

It now empties Windows\Recent admirably well, but I just ran into this one that doesn't appear to be targeted as yet:
