Wow!

Talk about not too nice. I have a system that should be very secure. At least it seemed that way until I added a double boot and WIN XP to one partition (I have Win 98 on another). After that, boy did the problems begin.

The first was when I discovered that all of my files in my AVIR Personal Edition folder had disappeared with the exception of one dll file. I found this out after a period of having trouble with completing update downloads to AVIR. As is obvious, I decided to download a new copy and start again, but here's some other erry information. All week long I had been using online virus checks such as Bit-Defender, Trend Micro, Panda, and I use Stinger. I am about the most conscientious surfer in terms of security you could probably run across. I have Sygate Personal Firewall. I have all the updates on all my operating systems Directx9b. Latest versions of Adaware & Spyblaster. I keep an updated version of FPROT DOS which scans everything anytime my system is re-booted. Everything is updated and frequently replaced. I had been re-installing IE6Sp1 with updates on a weekly basis. So if there is a virus, trojan or other device on my system, absolutely none of these programs is managing to detect it, and all of my careful management is being blown away.

Add to the mystery... Two more times over the past week I have returned to my AVIR Personal Edition Folder... to find it empty again!

Well, if that isn't good for at least a weekend laugh, I don't know what is.

For those that love solving a mystery, you are welcome to send your feedback. Today, hmmmmm. I reinstall AVIR Personal Anti-Virus and run stinger. But this week... I permanently wiped XP from my other partition. It is certainly not welcome there anymore. Heck, I'm very happy with 98 anyway for now.

Some Notes for this release
***************************

With version 6.26 we changed the communication protocol between the
AVGuard Control Program (red umbrella) and the AVGuard service to
TCP/IP under Windows NT, 2000 and XP. Please note that the Control
Program communicates only with the local system at 127.0.0.1
(localhost) and NOT with the Internet.

If you have a Personal Firewall like Kerio, Outpost, ZoneAlarm or
Norton Internet Security installed, this tool might issue a warning
message regarding a connection request of AVGNT.EXE (connection request
to port 18350) and an 'act as server' request of AVGUARD.EXE to the
same port. Please make sure that your firewall in is 'learning mode'
and that you allow this actions of AntiVir. It might be also a good
idea to select the option 'remeber this answer and don't ask me again'.
