Rob Bruintjes comes from big people. His mother was a shade under 6 feet tall and his father stood at nearly 6 foot 4.

But that doesn't begin to explain why Bruintjes grew to be 7 feet 4 inches. Or why the Dutch as a whole are now the tallest people in the world, while Americans, who held that title for two centuries, stopped growing 50 years ago.

Maybe it's an acquired survival-of-the-fittest genetic thing? Height would give them a little extra edge in keeping their heads above water if a dike broke. ;)

My bet it's because we count in meters and centimeters and not in inches and feet.
Small country, tall people, we try to look over all those heads in the crowds!

And we all learned to swim! with all that water, and skating in winter.

They need the extra height to look over all those dykes. ;) Alternatively, if Paul Wilder's avatar is an accurate representation, it could be all the spliffs/reefers they go through... ;D

Hi, The population of the Netherlands may be taller than that of the US of A but we still can claim the title for having the biggest egos. So there!

Hey, I resemble that remark! I should have mentioned that I am not a broad. I have been informed occasionally that there is a lot of space between my ears though. I guess if I were a Texan I could claim a lot of firsts.
