Something to do with Acronis i know.
Msconfig shows it being started during bootup.
Can i disable this app in MSConfig\startup without hurting Acronis?
NOTE: I dont do incremental backups, just full ones.
thanks,
savagcl

Hello --
Thank you for taking the time to contact us and for your interest in Acronis
True Image (http://www.acronis.com/products/trueimage/)!
This service is needed for proper work of Acronis True Image 7.0. Unless you want the software to operate in a wrong way, better don't stop it :):)
Thank you.

Anton,
Thanks for the reply. Could you be a little more specific please?
Is it a help file?
Is it a schedule to do something (what)?
As i mentioned, i dont do incremental backups (nor do i need to set a
schedule to do them). I only do full backups and only when i perceive a
need to do one.
thanks,
savagcl

It's a sxheduler service that runs in the background. Makes ZERO sense that ANY Acronis service is running if you don't have schedule or secure zone set up.

These Acronis services use virtually no resources or memory except when Trueimage is in use. I don't like any extra services either, but worrying about these is a waste of time.

Ok, here is an explanation on the Acronis services :
schedul2.exe -- Acronis scheduling service.
This service is started on the computer startup and remains active until
the computer is turned off. It is used by Acronis software to start
scheduled tasks.
Note that Acronis True Image 7.0 always schedule image creation tasks,
even if you start the "Image creation" operation. Thus if you stop
Acronis scheduling service, then you loose the ability to create images
in Windows.
schedhlp.exe -- Acronis scheduling service helper
This program monitors the logons and logoffs in the running system and
notifies Acronis scheduling service about them. It is started when a
user logs into the system and terminates when the user logs off.
Acronis True Image 7.0 uses this program to schedule tasks on user
logon/logoff and to run non-scheduled "Image creation" operation.
TrueImageMonitor.exe -- Acronis True Image Monitor
This program provides the interface between running Acronis True Image
tasks and the user. It allows to observe the tasks progress and cancel
the running tasks. It is started when a user logs into the system and
terminates when the user logs off.
This program is not required by Acronis True Image to perform its tasks,
and can be terminated if you think it occupies too much memory, but you
will loose the ability to control running Acronis True Image tasks.
All Acronis resident modules uses very little amount of physical memory
in normal state (when no imaging or other task is performed) since
operating system swaps them off to the swap file on the hard disk.
Thank you.

Thanks for the feedback guys, Acronis.
Not worried about the memory usage at all but i do like to know what is
running on my system (and why its running).
From what i read here, i dont need this running at all except when doing a
backup(?). I always delete the old images from my external HD which i
understand also wipes out the secure zone and the F11 key then make a
new full image of my HD, create the secure zone and do the F11 thing
and i'm done until next time i backup.
If windows won't boot at all, then its doubtfull if this schedhlp will be
running anyway................ so it must be for imcrementals or multi-user
systems.....
thanks again,
savagcl

Hi Anton:
Thanks for the explanation, but your reply mentions True Image 7.0.
1. Do all 3 of these services work the same for True Image 8?
2. If I am scheduling daily incremental images only (not creating manually & not creating when I logon or logoff), will TI 8 work without schedhlp.exe?
Thank you

Hello phrab,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).
These services work for all the version of Acronis True Image. We also recommend you work with Acronis True Image when these service is running.
Thank you.

Hi Irina:
Thank you for your reply. However, I know that these services work in True Image 8. I want to know if they work the same. Let me be more specific.
I generally run a full backup & then incremental backups every other day for two weeks to an external hard drive. I schedule them for 3AM & leave the machine on overnight.
1. Do I absolutely need schedhlp.exe running, since I am not scheduling TI to do a backup when I logon or logoff?
2. If I were to manually create a backup with TI 8, must I have schedul2.exe running? I know that you've said I must if I was running TI 7, so I want to know if that's changed.
Thank you,
ianC

Forgive me for saying gents, but what is the problem with leaving these services running? If memory is not an issue, and they don't take much CPU except when they're running then what's the problem?
Surely we should let TI run as designed?

The three TI services (schedul2.exe, shedhlp.exe and TrueImageMonitor.exe) are required for full functionality whenever creating or restoring images, be it manually or scheduled.

Thank you for responding. However, my questions are different. I've read several threads regarding these services, the FAQ, & Acronis support, which indicates that TI will create images just fine without TrueImageMonitor.exe running. It also indicates that TI uses schedhlp to determine when a user logs on & off, so that TI can run scheduled backups at logon or logoff. What I am asking is whether it is necessary for scheduled backups that are set for some other time period, such as daily, weekly, etc.?
Thanks again,

Hi ianC:
It's not necessarily a problem, although these services do tend to add up when you download numerous utilities. I simply would like to understand the intricacies of some of TI's features & I cannot find the answers to the questions that I asked. See my post just above.

Hello phrab,
The serives are rather complex and we cannot exactly define the functions of each of them because they work in cooperation with each other. By disabling one service you may affect the perfromance of another one that is why we do not recommend that you change any settings for these services.
Thank you.

Thanks again, <-QUOTE}TrueImageMonitor.exe - Provides the moving status bar and the capability to cancel a TI activity.
Schedhlp.exe - Enables TI to schedule tasks on user
logon/logoff and to run other image creation operations.
Schedul2.exe - Used by to start scheduled tasks. TI always schedules image creation tasks, even when you choose to create an image manually (it's a scheduled task that starts immediatly!!).
As I said in my previus reply if you require full functionality then all three services need to be running. If you can live without the moving status indicator and the capability to cancel an operation then, by all means, stop TrueImageMonitor.exe loading. However, stopping either of the other two services will prevent any imaging activity.

I am all for understanding how things work and I wouldn't criticise that at all, I got the impression (maybe mistakenly) that you wanted to try to run TI without having some of the services running and it seemed (to me at least) a lot of work and maybe risky for not much gain. But hey, it's not me doing it so each to his own; we all have different setups and requirements!
