Hello Minacross,

I found your question to be a good one: how to update the virus signature(s) of Betdefender for DOS. Well, here is what I did to HOPEFULLY get the updated files into place:

1) I downloaded bdcdos.zip, cumulative.zip, and daily.zip from Bitdefender's website.

2) I extracted (unZipped) bdcdos.zip into a temporary directory "Temp". Important: note that directory "Temp" now contains a subdirectory called "Plugins".

3) I extracted the cumulative virus definitions from cumulative.zip into temporary directory "Temp2".

4) I extracted the daily virus definitions from daily.zip into the same "Temp2" directory replacing any/all duplicate files extracted from above.

5) Now, in directory "Temp2" delete all *.dll files.

6) Copy the remaining files (*.cvd, *.ivd, *.rvd, *.xmd) into directory "Temp/Plugins", replacing any/all duplicate files.

7) Crank up Bitdefender for DOS.

8) Hope for the best!

Well, that's the good news. The bad news is that I am not positive that Bitdefender for DOS is actually using the new file definitions as per the previous steps. Perhaps Wizard or Technodrome can give us a definitive answer....

Here is the standard disclaimer: I don't work for Bitdefender; I'm just an Average Joe like you. I can't swear the the above procedure will work for you.

But I am still....

Hi Mina,

I have deleted your email-address from your posting.
I hope you don't mind, but I thought it was better to do so in the light of possible email-address-harvesters.

Cheers, Jan.

I've never used that program before, but just by looking at your error screenshot, I would say you need a space after bddosc. Try bddosc /update not bddosc/update

Steve, I tried this before and it did not work :(

Mina,

When executing this mentioned command:

-{ Quote: "If you will use the following command you will display all the
information about BitDefender for MSDos:

"bdcdos /?"" }-

what shows up?

A "/p", no quotes should show 1 page at a time.

/p in the program switches is "prompt for action"
read the support team reply:

Answer:

Dear Nina,

Thank you for your interest in our security solution BitDefender.

Unfortunatly, there has been a mistake in the last message we sent you. BitDefender MS-DOS Edition does not provide a automatic way to update the virus signatures. In order to do this, you will have to go to: ftp://bitdefender.com/pub/updates/bitdefender_v7/
and manually unpack the daily.zip file in the Plugins\ subdirectory.

Thank you very much for your patience.

Mina,

My initial question had just one purpose: finding out if there indeed is an "update" command line. Root provided the needed extra info.

Anyway, I assume your problem has been solved after the last SoftWin email.

regards.

Hello All,

Well, at least I feel better knowing that my Home-Cooked updating method works as per BitDefender's E-mail posted above. ;D
