What do you folks make of user comments for software that seems not at all based in reality?
I'm sure you've seen examples. I'm referring to comments for reasonably reliable, well-written software that goes something like this: -{ Quote: ""This program is your worst nightmare. Tons of spyware and spam. This thing shut down my DSL connection and took over all internet activity. Only way to clean it off was to reload my operating system. You have been warned."" }-
This was actually a comment posted on CNet for Shareaza 2.0, which I recently played with. I'm not shilling for Shareaza, but these comments seem so far off base I can't imagine they are sincere or genuine.
So when you see stuff like this, do you chalk it up to
a) a true moron that really believes this stuff
b) a practical joke (akin to a prank phonecall from those rotten teens!)
c) someone with an agenda
d) someone who's stopped taking their medication
e) the comments are probably right; the person is probably a genius
f) Optigrab, I think you've got too much time on your hands
Just making conversation here.

Shouldn't this be posted in the polls section ;D

I thought about that, but feared that (f) would win by a landslide. ::)

Well, when the comments are too far off, I usually chalk it up to a certain category of people who haven't got anything else to do, and just go about from site to site badmouthing everyone/everything (who knows, they may also be using a canned speech, regardless of product). :P
Unfortunately, some of these people do that in real life as well... :o

It could be that they only have the IQ of a retarded field mouse and really don't know any better.

lol ^ , ;D they could be stoopid and already have some kind of spyware and not know it , just laying the blame on shareaza to make them feel better..
If I knew where the was link I'd post it ;D , and I'm sure people here already know this ;) , but there's been many people caught out for posting negative comments about software that are their opposition , all they are interested in is making their competition look bad.. all part of the game i guess.
Just like there's trolls that love to post positve comments about software that is downright dangerous and nothing but full on spyware.. you cant trust anyone but yourself.
Does caveat emptor even apply to free software ?? .. :P

-{ Quote: "Does caveat emptor even apply to free software ?? .. :P" }- With free software it especially applies, but it probably gets translated differently. ;) It seems it also applies when reading ridiculous feedback from the peanut gallery! :D
