Ladies and Gents,

We would be very much obliged if you would empty your inbox and outbox from your IM feature from outdated and useles debris. It's taking quite some space on our servers, which could be used in a more useful way.

Thanks in advance!

regards.

::)Did that yesterday here myself on the OUTBOX...I think others forgot or did not know that IM's they were sending are even held in a box at this site...in many email client the user can set it so that messages sent are not stored...is that possible at this site for the IM. I think if it was optional..many would not even use it by default.

John,

Alas, the board software doesn't know such an option.

Some explanation:

IM is when you send someone an Instant Message via this board. The sender sees it at his/her outbox when you go to the top of this board and click on messages; the receiver at his/her inbox.

BTW:
PM is when you send someone an email using for example Outlook Express; that email is not shown at this board.

We are talking here about IM.

There is no need to delete every IM in your IM-inbox or IM-outbox on its own.
In a few clicks you can empty your whole IM-inbox, and the same for your IM-outbox.

I will give you some screenshots.
I have sent myself two test IM's. Then I'm going to empty my inbox.

So, in the previous screenshot you see my IM-inbox with two IM's in it.
Just click now on the "Delete" button.
Then you will get a question whether you are sure that you want to delete all messages (we are talking here about my IM-inbox).

And after I clicked "Yes", the IM-inbox is empty:

Now do the same thing with your IM-outbox, and all messages are deleted.

PS: if you like, you can store all your sent and received messages on your own PC before deleting them from the board-server. In that case, simply store the page with your received messages on your PC, and do the same for your send messages.

:) Hello Everyone!

I, myself, had thought of this before. So, when the list would get up to 30 or more messages I would take a few minutes and copy them to Wordpad, editing as needed. Then I would delete them all. It works out to a little housecleaning about once a week. I wish my other cleaning jobs were this easy to do!

I consider this small chore to be a courtesy to the benevolent beings who have provided me with so much help and assistance!

Thank you all!

Best Regards Always from Larry! ;D

Paul, this board should have a hack for limiting the number of messages that can be stored.
It forces cleaning on a regular basis for those that use a lot of PMs.
I don't know how others would feel about this, but I live with it without problems on several other boards.

Ladies and Gents,

We would be very much obliged if you would empty your inbox and outbox from your IM feature. This board is going to change in a "read only" archive, and we'd like to see it being lean and clean before the chance will be made.

Thanks in advance.
