Hi All, ;)
Seeing as we where going down memory lane in "Internet Experience" thread ... and I love starting your "Favourites" threads ... as they allow us all to relax and get to know each other better ... and of course insight wonderful memories ... Here's another one:
What is your all favourite TV show ... & what did you like most about it?
dog - *puppy*
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't watch much TV ... but growing up, my favourites were:
M*A*S*H* 4077
All in the Family
I loved MASH ... from funny 'n silly to flat out serious ... allows delivered a message or provoked a little thought from the viewer ... shared a rare intimacy with its audience ... you became one of the family.
All in the Family - Pushed the envelope ... nothing like it before it, and would never make it to air today ... I think it really helped evolve society ... it appealed to both sides of the divide. Truly genius.
Other Fav's:
Fav Brit sitcom: Are you being Served?
Modern Day: Simpsons - funny on so many levels & Everybody Loves Raymond ... it delivers those deep down belly laughs. ;D

Gunsmoke (best of a genre that has a lengthy, rich history on the tube)
Ed Sullivan Show (simply for the Beatles' appearances in '64 - nothing like it before or since)
Twilight Zone (Rod Serling was a sci-fi writer/director genius who attracted similarly talented actors & other writers. The stories hold up 40 years later.)
Dick Van Dyke Show (his physical humor & Mary Tyler Moore before her
"other" show)
Dragnet - the early years ("Just the facts, m'am....")
You Bet Your Life (Groucho Marx doing double entendre improv that even the censors didn't get - all under the guise of a game show)
The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (How on earth was somebody consistently that good, night after night, for 30 years?)
Edward R. Murrow (various interview/investigative shows/reports - blazed the trail for 60 Minutes)
And finally....
Bonanza (created by NBC to sell RCA color TVs - we knew we had the
often-squirrelly color set correctly when Little Joe's green
jacket was the proper shade of green)
8) :) :D

Hey BigC & Max, and of course Peaches. ;)
Definitely agree with you guys on the Twilight Zone ...
Yes, Carson was/is still the King of Late Night (tuff shoes for Leno to fill, and Dave for that matter)
... add Saturday Night Live (eddy/chevy years) to the list
Best gameshow ... Good Old Bob Barker's Price is Right ... Almost forty years I think ... started around '71, Let's make a Deal wasn't bad in it's time either!
Best show that got cancel - Brooklyn South

Two of my very favorite tv shows were
"Welcome Back Kotter"
and "Get Smart"
Of course, being born in '77, I watched them as reruns. Same went for some other greats like MASH.

I watched all of the original Star Trek episodes, and a few of the newer ones. I like the old ones best. They put too much stuff in the second version of S.T. and I think there are too many characters. :( Although it is superior technically, I think the acting is better in the old version. I enjoy watching Zooboomafoo, lol, for we see various wild animals *puppy* :) *puppy* :) *puppy* interacting with people!

My all time favorite was the original series 'Kung-Fu', staring David Carradine. My parents did not like it (at first), so I had to sit in the kitchen and watch it on a small black and white set. Boy I loved that show.
Eventually, they came to enjoy it, so i got to watch it in color in the living room.
I remember when young Cane caught a would be theif trying to jack a fancy plate. He presented the theif they way that my old cat would present dead rodents. Anyway, the priest at the temple was not upset, he had them wait there, and a moment later he returned with a second plate which he gave to the footpad. He let the theif take the 2 plates and scurry away. My mom thought it was cool, I spent long hours trying to figure out that (and other) lessons. Actually, I am still trying.

The Fugitive. Great choice. Forgot all about it. David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble. I was working @ a restaurant/bar in '67 when the final 2-hr episode played. The bar was quiet as a full house watched on a couple small TVs to see if Dr. Kimble would catch the one-armed man. If I recall correctly, it was the highest rated show in TV history to that time. Later topped by M*A*S*H's final episode....

Hard to beat Peter Gunn for theme music. :)
I liked Dragnet just for the clipped manner in which they spoke.

OK, I have to say it...there's a comedy show from England called Spaced. It's about two people pretending to be a couple so they can rent a flat, and it's absolutely hilarious! If you ever get the chance to see it..........see it. You'll love it!
Of course, the Simpsons have to get a mention, and the Young Ones!
Top stuff!! ;D

I would add: George & Mildred.

Good one. I can hear that song in my head to this day. Also liked 77 Sunset Strip and the lame ditty that was its theme song.
Barney Miller had a terrific ensemble cast of principal characters and an endless stream of quirky, hilarious guest characters. One that still makes me laugh in re-runs is the guy who thought he was a werewolf. Kept howling in the jail cell & driving Barney nuts.
Also should include Cheers - another outstanding comedy cast.
But, TV viewing (like movies, books, art, music) is so subjective. Example: many people thought Seinfeld was the funniest show ever. I found it to be absolutely annoying and utterly unwatchable. To each his own, right? That's why we have the remote control....

HBO has a program called "Curb Your Enthusiasm". The star of the show used to write on Seinfeld. The show is unscripted. I have laughed at that show until my sides hurt.

It is surprising that there was only 39 shows ever produced. :o
Seems like a lot more, i've seen them all 100 times. ;) ;D
Ralph,Ed,Alice and Trixie, they were something else! :D Couldn't wait to visit that dingy little apartment for 30 minutes each week.

I've noticed there are some Canuks @ this forum - which reminds me of a TV show that I was crazy about as a kid in the 50s: Sergeant Preston of the Yukon. A RCMPoliceman in bright red uniform, with his faithful dog Yukon King @ his side. Ran on TV 1955-58.
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-6167/
Cast & crew probably never left Hollywood to film. Once came to my home town, and I got "Preston's" autograph. That was WAY cool.... ;)

Couldn't agree more. SUPERB cast and writing. Think how few props they usually had: tiny kitchen table w/ 2 chairs; icebox; sink; window;
door; dresser; Ralph's bus driver hat & uniform; Alice's apron; Norton's felt fedora & T-shirt; and maybe lodge caps for Ralph & Ed. The bedroom was purely in the viewer's imagination, as was Ed's & Trixie's apt.
You KNOW the show was good because it's funny 50 years later. Kinda like Laurel & Hardy....timeless interpersonal situations.

This is true. ::)
A song thrown together at a live concert in Boston i think. The band was having some sound problems so as they were waiting for their crew to get things right, Randy Bachman started to play his now famous lead in to the song, Burton Cummings threw in some lyrics and American Woman was born, basically between sound checks. :D ;D

10-4. Music is a trivia thread that could run on forever.
Here's one:
Cream's famous 60s album Disraeli Gears got its title because one of the band members (not Clapton) wanted a bicycle with derailleur gears and couldn't get the term correct. The rest, as they say, is history.... 8) 8)
