I tested it and all it does is compare your files checksums to their database of checksums and based on that allows the program network access. If you have an unknown file you can submit it to them for comparison. I dont see the point in this as you can just download the file from the official site and do the comparison yourself, although some people might find it usefull. In their forums I read that they turn a lot of ports off by default, but at the moment you cannot define this and it seems to be a while before you can. I would stick with a good packet filter before I would use this again.

It is a great idea, but I dont think they should implement a network firewall unless it is fully configurable. It is a bit pricey I must agree.

i have used pcinternet patrol before, but it caused problems with my internet connection, and when an unauthorized program needed net access, the trial didnt let me submit it. the price u mention is too much for such a program. why is it necessary to have a subscription? and is this program rele considered a firewall? i thought it was just supposed to be a supplement

Anyone reading this needs to understand that the new world order is LAYERED security. ActiveX and Javascript can still exploit flaws in IE and Windows, and wouldn't be caught by an app control prog unless it stripped all the functionality from in IE (which leaves you with little more than 'Notepad' for surfing the web).

pcInternet Patrol is all you need for firewall??? that's like saying you've closed all the windows in the house but the front door is wide open (port 80)! What's the guarantee success rate at ISA??? unless it's 100% you can be sure their solution should not be your ONLY solution.

I highly recommend a personal firewall, a solid anti-virus program (one that can block viruses, worms and trojans; many are not good at blocking all three types of threats), a spyware scanner, a pop-up blocker (this is a must... you are your own worst enemy without it) and a script blocker to compliment any application control program.

Internet Security Alliance will add working with ports in new generation, meant that you'll be having a graphical interface for managing this process.
Currently, the majority of trojan ports is blocked and this setting cannot
be changed. It's a good enough decision, for mostly all users.
