After several years of delay, now also the Dutch ISPs are obliged to tap their users emails. If they don't cooperate, they are supposed just as suspicious and can be fined.
In this case the kind of technology enables the ISPs to connect two large pc's (size of about a good fridge) on their network and filter out on individual level: the one pc sniffing around all from the "suspects pc" and the other copying all content and sendings in packets which encrypted are sent to our national justice. Of course they cooperate wiht FBI and those international institutions.
This is not only in the Netherlands, could be all over Europe, that will other peopel be able to tell from their countries...
This kind of things saddens me highly. As all ISPs are to cooperate there is no way with changing ISPs to be safe or with using different ISPs for different activities for instance as they scan all your system/network.
These laws in the make were already several years, so it is not immediately connected with 9/11.
So up to encryption of our systems, peekabooty, camera/shy, m-o-o-t and all that.
