View Full Version : KAV manual updates

Hi people,

My KAV Professional Pro is failing to update automatically for a while now, and as before, the mail support is prompt but useless. The reason they have given is that the servers are overloaded and they provide a site where I can download the AV files manually. I don't mind that (even though for the price I expected the full works) the problem is that there doesn't seem to be a facility to download all the files in one go, rather you have to download each definition individually which seems ridiculous.

Anybody know how I can reach a link where I can download all the latest definitions in one go? It's been a while since I updated and it could be a problem if it doesn't get resolved.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards
Ashak

Ashak,

Drop me an email with the same content as posted and specs. I'll contact Eugene Kaspersky and see if and what can be done to solve your problem. (webmaster@wilders.org ).

Manual updates:

http://www.kaspersky.com/updates.html

Make sure that you download the files in the correct order:

Cumulative update - August 2002
Weekly update August 09, 2002
Weekly update August 16, 2002
Daily update

For the update servers. You can contact me via email and tell me which server URL you are currently using with your updater (you can find the information in the updater properties) and I can compare them with those I use (which are working without problems :))

I just tried to download these files today. They were unzipped by default into a new folder: C:\unzipped

Should they have been unzipped to a different location or can I run a scan effectively as it stands?

wizard, I will e-mail you the server URL today so you can compare it to yours.

cheers

Well, I figured out where the files need to be downloaded to :

Program Files\Common Files\AVP Shared Files\BASES

Considering the price of the product, I would have expected the manual download would at least be capable of choosing the correct default directory. Is KAV Pro only meant for savvy users? The support is absolutely hopeless for the average user who isn't an IT professional. I would love to have gone for the cheaper Personal version, but the demo version is Pro only, even from the link which is supposed to be for the Personal version. This is all a bit confusing really!!.

Not great PR in my view.

Use utility such as WinZip or WinRAR to extract files to Program Files\Common Files\AVP Shared Files\BASES . It takes 1.2 sec to extract them!

"Is KAV Pro only meant for savvy users?"
Any program could be complicated for an average user. READING THE MANUAL SHOULD PREVENT THIS! I suggest reading on.

I already figured out the correct directory to unzip to but thanks all the same. I downloaded the programme from the Kaspersky website so i don't have a manual as such. There is digital help but it's not really specific to my problem.

Some additional info which I should have included earlier: I get the message "antivirus bases are locked by another process. loading failed."

Does that ring any bells?

Kaspersky Antivirusal Personal pro is a very good av Blaze, very strong on Trojan detection as well as virii (probably stronger than alot of dedicated trojan scanners out there)

As of yesterday, the atomatic updates are working fine again. There are a few update servers in the properties menu which I moved up and down but Idon't think that made any difference as I went with the default settings in the end and it worked, whereas previously it didn't. I think the problem was with the servers at Kaspersky's end and they've obviously sorted it out.

Anyhow, everything is functioning great at the moment.
