Just a tiny scoop for all those using NOD32 as their anti-virus:
The "new NOD32 generation" is planned to be introduced at the upcoming Virus Bulletin Conference, end September
At the moment, the Beta from the upcoming new version is ready. As ever "dressing up" comes latest (GUI etc.)

Do I understand right that licensed users get def file updates AND product updates as they are released? Seeing as I only bought Nod this week I'd hate to see it outdated already!!

Tinribs,
-{ Quote: "Do I understand right that licensed users get def file updates AND product updates as they are released?" }-
No worry ;) Have a look here (http://www.nod32.com/support/faq.htm#update).

No prob. Keep in mind, a presentation does not automaticly imply the "new generation" will be available for download/upgrade right away!

Does that mean that it could be out before the presentation? :) Or does it mean it might not be available shortly after the presentation? :(
Regards
Tim :) or :(

Hi Tim,
-{ Quote: "Does that mean that it could be out before the presentation?" }-
No chance at all.
-{ Quote: "Or does it mean it might not be available shortly after the presentation?" }-
Yep. It's the introduction that is planned - by no means the final release. Looks like Eset is speeding up, though ;).

The next generation of nod32 should be quite powerfull. I know Anton Zajac and Miroslav Trnka quite well and met both of them at the last CeBIT. We discussed about "generic unpacking using emulation" and heuristic stuff as far as i remember.
I only know that they worked hard to create some powerfull heuristic algorithms to detect trojans, i-worms and backdoors. As far as i know the new NOD32 generation has a completely new unpacking engine, too.
I think it will be a nice piece of software ;o).

THanks for the information Andreas
I hope your feeling better these days.
I wonder if the Zip - unZip feature in Windows ME and XP could be utalized for a scanengine. In WIndows XP it is installed by default. On Windows ME it is a feature that needs to be turned on :)
Sacn engine uses the OS to partly unpack the item?
Just me brainstorming again..
