are you telling us your a senior member and have never looked at/been curious about VB awards despite the favt that they are ALWAYS being reffered to in this forum(or could it be you might be trying to highlight/rub in Nods record?)

. I am a kaspersky lite user and feel that it is most likely the most economical peice of software around at $18 . I also have e trust v7 promo ( vet - 20 VB awards and InnoculateIT 16 VB awards) .proberbly the best free anti virus available
I have never had a Noddy licence.
In my mind the above VB info shows that there are a handful of anti virus vendors that are consistantly dedicated to the ongoing effort of anti virus protection - that is all .

I have to confess I've never really been able to appreciate the importance of historic VB performance records to the degree that other members have.

ITW threats change and AV's evolve rather quickly - definitions are updated - engines are updated, rebuilt or even replaced - new products are introduced and others fall off the map, etc.

Of course it should be a source of pride for an AV company to have a long track history of success. But I wonder if it is valid for an average user to feel more or less secure because an AV passed or failed VB two or three years ago.

I agree.

Appreciate the info compiled by SP.

I think historic VB100 info is relevant for the top 3 or so established AV vendors only to show commitment or not to putting out a good product over time.

Eset 26 passes / 3 fails <== jumps out on historical record.

I know McAfee had a good product and served many well yet the above results are not impressive Network Associates (McAfee) 14 passes / 17 fails.

My point is using historical (2-3 year old data can be misleading)

Maybe a 6 month or 1 year comparison can show a better trend.

At some point the old data (2-3 years old) is irrelevant.

i agree with peakaboo and also want to add that the platforms are different as well as the product versions.

To everyone from Firefighter!

In my mind there is no correlation between REAL SAFE net surfing and VirusBulletin Awards. Totally 53 NEW viruses has been added to ITW list between 1. January 2004 and 28. April 2004. That's REALLY much to evaluate how good an av really is!!!

By the way, DrWeb online scan found 128 different infectections last week.

Best regards,
Firefighter!

To Straight Shooter from Firefighter!

I mean that worldwide DrWeb online scan found 129 different infections last week (statistic updated), 445 different infections last month, 2762 different infections last year and so on. We have to remember that DrWeb is quite small av-operator and DrWeb online scan is able to scan only one file in a row.

During the first three months this year 2004, DrWeb has added 354 new VIRUSES in it's database and 1570 new TROJANS and BACKDOORS, although we know that DrWeb's database isn't the largerst we have seen. So what is those 53 new ITW viruses comparing to these that DrWeb has added this year?

Best regards,
Firefighter!
