Here's a sequel article complementing the recommended software for Linux compilation, elaborating on my favorite productivity software for Windows, based on the principles of stability, ease of use and efficiency. Have fun.

Why don't you believe in desktop search?

Well, mostly because it has never given me any added value.
I tried a few tools and the overall benefit was nil - for me.

How do you find files then? I use Everything, and love its speed.

All my files are placed into specific directories with meaningful names. I use the search function to find files only maybe once in three four months, and normally it's a linux distro review screenshot that I can't immediately find.

My motto is - smart catalog in the first place, no need to search later.

When I saw the Security part, I thought you were mentioning SuRun for Vista/7 as well. Any reason why you don't use it on Windows 7?

It brings benefits to Vista and 7 as well, such as only elevating for the current user only. This really is a plus, unlike UAC which elevates to system level.

Well, I didn't see a need to use it on Windows 7. The 64-bit os is robust enough, and anything beyond the default is an overkill.
