Thanks for the article! One other thing I have been seeing is that most new Computers are taking advantage of x64 Windows 7 platform instead of x86!

IMO...

I know I only see a small part of the world but 1 out of every 3?? Sorry but I don't buy it. Certainly not in the business world where there is an XP PC on most desks of any company I see. At our work place, we have two Win 7 machines out of 25 or so and we only bought those 2 because we could no longer buy XP (Win 7 and Vista are still not universally supported in business, contrary to what the media tries to say.)

With Private ownership, I don't have an issue with higher numbers.

What do I think the numbers really are?? Half of 1 in 3...

Not hard to believe at all. I still use all 3. Using 98 right now. All of them still work on the web just fine, especially with some of the unofficial upgrades that are available for them. All of them can be secured against attacks from the web. All of them can be set up to fill the needs of the average user.

The usage numbers mean very little when you look at it. There's more PCs in use now than ever before. Purchasing Windows, you have a choice of one, Win-7, give or take the different "versions". Not hard to dominate sales and usage numbers on those terms.

If the day comes that I have to purchase a new PC, then I might "upgrade" the OS, but I really don't see it happening anytime soon. Good XP units are available used at really cheap prices, or free. As long as this used hardware is abundant, I won't be wasting money on a new system.

My reason for sticking with WinXP is that I would have to spend about $200 to upgrade some programs that will not run on Win 7 (no new drivers/updates being offered for the older versions).

Why should I spend money to upgrade to new versions of programs when the ones I have perform perfectly well?

I'll have to get a newer OS, of course, when a new program I want won't run on WinXP!

Windows 7 is the very best version I have ever used. I skipped ME and Vista. The former because it didn't move me, the latter for financial reasons.

Windows 7 just works and works well.

I love that apps are HTML5/JS based and not Silverlight based, like Windows Phone 7 is. They say they won't but all I see is the end for Silverlight (and I'm glad!).
