"Sorry, we couldn't find..."

On my computer, I often get the situation where the page that I am on is redirected to a page that says: "Sorry, we couldn't find," and after that some sort of advertising address is named such as http://ad.yieldmanager.com, http://ad.doubleclick.net, and sometimes even some sort of Facebook ad related site and others are named.

Plus, the brand name of my computer(emachines) is in the left top portion of the page. However, I googled the words: 'rediirect Sorry, we couldn't find' and found results where other brands of computers are doing the same thing. Also, unfortunately, I am not really getting anywhere in finding a way to disable this annoying redirect with the search results that I have gotten.

Therefore, if anyone knows how to stop this page redirect, please let me know. Thanks.

Look for add-ons to browser, visible and invisible. Could be called Search Assistant or perhaps Browser Address Error Redirector. Your problem sounds similar to this http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/630874-redirected-gateway-powered-google-various.html and others you can find in Google using emachines redirect "Sorry, we couldn't find" as search term. Instead of disabling via system tools do it in browser or even better uninstall via add/remove programs.

If not the case then search for dns redirection "Sorry, we couldn't find", similar problem but different solution. Hopefully you also see many hits at the top of a Google search. I would assume your ISP would make a big deal out of highlighting their brand name and not emachines so Search Assistant like program is probably more likely. Could be either one though. Both should be easy to fix.

In another thread of yours I see you have Yahoo toolbar. Have no idea but it could be a branded version from emachines with this redirection build-in. Just disable all browser "goodies" including toolbars. Can also start up IE with no add-ons. Easy to look under the hood http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2008/03/20/add-on-management-improvements-in-internet-explorer-8.aspx You also have Firefox installed so if that is clean/no toolbars or search add-ons and does not have these problems you know it is something hooking in to IE.

Thank you for your reply, Bambo. Although, I had actually forgot about this thread. :-[ But the Yahoo toolbar you were talking about must have been one of the IE8 Add ons search providers located in the upper right-hand corner.

But as far as my redirection problem goes, it's no longer there now. But it's strange because when I first got this computer, I did not have the redirection problem, however, I think that I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows about 4 times and I think when I reinstalled Windows the 3rd time, that's when the redirection problem started. However, after I reinstalled Windows the 4th time(currently), the redirection problem stopped. Therefore, go figure. ::)

P.S. Also, for some strange reason, Elizabeth Taylor came to mind. ;)
