Boffins are set to discover if the Earth distorts space-time as it spins, as the Gravity-B probe is scheduled to launch today at 18:01 GMT.

The satellite will provide precise measurements of how a massive object, such as the Earth, bends space. It will also test the theory that the Earth drags space along with it as it spins

The probe will carry four of the most perfect spheres ever made...

Yeah, I read an article about this launch today in the local rag. It stated that most physicists thought the results would be "ho-hum" as they expect Einstein's theories to be completely supported by the data gathered. As I recall, there was an earlier version of this test that did much the same. I still find the special and general theories pretty fascinating, especially given how long ago A.E. came up with 'em. His mind must have worked in pretty mysterious ways! ;)

I recall a quote from where? Perhaps Mad Magazine from years ago? It had to do with the theory of gravity: "There is no gravity! The earth sucks! -Irving Forn" ;D

Edit: BTW Bigc, I loved your post title! Kinda appeals to our prurient interests, right? 8)

Just as long as they don't drop it on my new car. ;D ;)

Well, you're prolly OK unless that new car is one of those huge SUVs that creates its own gravity well! :)
