PDF-XC update (http://www.tracker-software.com/product/downloads)
There have been some bug fixes apparently & the UI has some changes. It looks a little more subtle to me, although I thought the previous was cooler. 8)
Oh ho! :o
I updated to the PDF XC 2.5.188 with the updater on both my desktop (Win 7 64 bit) & smaller laptop (Vista 32 bit) & the Ask toolbar was not included in the desktop upgrade but was on the laptop. Uninstalling from the toolbar itself was problematical but I uninstalled from the control panel.
Another thing that I noticed was that there were two PDF XC files in the control panel, the last stable release (I have been using PDF XC about a month) & the new one. I uninstalled the old one from my desktop & the whole PDF viewer was removed!
I re-installed from the homepage & everything is fine ... no Tracker/Ask toolbar.
Regardless of a sneaky attempt to put their toolbar on IE (which I hardly ever use anyway) I still prefer PDF XC to Adobe!

The Lite version also was updated- and still free promo. There was supposed to be a fix for the auto install of the ask toolbar when a person opts in for the pdf-xchange viewer install. I don't see release notes though.

Yeah, but it's odd why it installed a toolbar on both of my 32 bit (Vista) laptops but not on my 64 bit desktop (Seven).

This is a beta version. They have changed their policies on betas. Users (including me!) will need to pay closer attention to the version being released.
-{ Quote: "BETA Releases - who should use?
We will be offering a freely available Beta release of the latest PDF-XChange Viewer build from mid October onwards, this will be available to all and will be updated frequently, meaning the alternative 'stable' releases will be offered less frequently than has been the case to date. It is recommended that this is used by advanced users only who are comfortable using beta software and aware that it may contain issues and bugs - but accept this and would prefer to take advantage of the latest functionality available. We suggest this should not be used by corporate users with large installed client bases unless specifically recommended to do so by a member of our Support team.

Yes, indeed it is.

How? I use the following page to check for new versions (I bought the PRO product and, therefore, download PRO - but it shouldn't matter since new versions of all products are generally released at about the same time):
http://www.tracker-software.com/product/downloads
Now, below are links to the "Version History and Release Notes" pages for the PRO and Viewer products. Note that they both clearly read "current stable version". ???

Yeah, sorry I thought that this was a common policy with Tracker. I am in two minds whether to install the old one again.

Yeah, what's with this? LOL
It seems stable though. Either way, it's way better than Adobe.

Adobe rendering quality is still slightly better, unfortunately. Still, portable PDF-XChange Viewer is my reader of choice. Check out the new UI customisation options, they're great :)

Yeah, I suppose it is, I aren't that worried about it that I'll re-install Abloaty Adobe though!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that ... cheers. :thumb:

Installed the new build last night, as soon as I noticed it had been posted, and I'm still seeing pretty darn high memory usage after scrolling through PDF files.
There have been reports that the new build resolved this issue for a couple of people but I'm not one of them.
Any feedback appreciated.

Weird, it's now "PDF-Viewer" in add/remove & start menu. Did they miss out "XChange"?

TY.
It's the only native 64-bit PDF viewer that I know of, so I'm keeping it.
Memory usage isn't that much of an issue for me, but it's still nice to know about the 10% maximum setting.

What is the difference between portable and . . . not portable, besides the size?

-{ Quote: "Portable Version:
And then there is the portable version - it does not need installation, and does not make changes to your computer's registry (a special place where information for all installed applications is stored) so it is as it's name suggests portable and can be "carried" on e.g. a memory stick, and allow you to bring your PDF Viewer with you, wherever you go. All configuration and settings are stored in a file in the same folder as the application.
It is also only available in a 32 bit variant, so can be used as a "workaround" when you have a 64 bit OS and 32 bit scanner drivers - our stand alone product can not recognize or work with those drivers while the portable version should do the trick." }-

- I get "PDF-XChange Viewer" when I install using PXCViewer_x64.msi
