Hello everyone.
I was installing Norton AntiVirus 2004 and durring that process it encountered an error (no I didn't write it down, i wish i had). I rebooted and tried to reinstall it, i got an messsage telling me to uninstall or repair the previous installation of Norton, or reboot. Since i had just rebooted, i chose to uninstall. I went through the registry and delted all obviously related keys, and i also deleted all files/folders associated with Norton. I rebooted again and got the same error telling me to uninstall or reboot.
Can someone tell me how to get rid of the item that Norton detects when i try to install?
Thanks
Eric

there is a patch to get norton 2004 running you need to uninstall it first apply the patch then install it but whatever you do do not register it untill you have all the updates updated or it will come back with a virus as i have had all the same problems.

Just a little side note...Norton 2004 is one of the hardest AV"s to uninstall...read customers reviews about Norton 2004...you might have second thoughts about reinstalling it.

cobra123456,
Depending what OS you are running will make the differance to what directions to take. For XP, 2000, you will find the directions here (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2004020909040706?Open&src=bar_sch_nam&docid=2004020915570606&nsf=nav.nsf&view=5e19e84a28547fe188256d4e006aaa95&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=) and for WinME, 98, you will find the directions here (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2004020915570606?Open&src=bar_sch_nam&docid=2004020909040706&nsf=nav.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=). Scroll halfway down the page where you see Removal Instuctions. You will be using the Rnav removal tool if you have prior versions installed. Important that if you had any other prior versions of Norton Antivirus you will need to use the removal tool to remove them also. follow the directions step by step. Be sure that you use the removal tool to remove all prior versions if installed. You use the tool and it will give you the option on which year to remove. Remove each one before you reboot. Then after uninstall is complete you should be able to install Norton 2004.
best regards,
hardyhar
