Norton Removal Tool was designed to be a program that can remove some Norton software from your computer.

NRT's main purpose is to aid in the removal of Norton products; the built-in uninstaller may fail to remove all files and registry entries, conflicting with future installations.

NRT can only remove these Norton programs:
· Norton AntiSpam 2004/2005
· Norton AntiVirus 2003 through 2011
· Ghost 2003, Ghost Version 9.0 and 10.0, 12.0, 14.0, 15.0
· Norton GoBack 3.1 through 4.2
· Norton Internet Security 2003 through 2011
· Norton Password Manager
· Norton Personal Firewall 2003 through 2009
· Norton SystemWorks 2003 through 2009
· Norton Confidential Online 2007
· Norton Internet Security Add-on Pack 1.0 - 4.0
· Norton Save and Restore 1.0 -2.0
· Norton 360 1.0 - 4.0
· Norton Safety Reminder 1.0
· Norton SafeWeb 3.2

Just used this t'other day to uninstall NIS 2011.
Left quite a lot behind.
Some useful files: key etc. ( which I had elsewhere )
Some files left behind re install history and the current install file for 2011 which was what I removed.
"Identifier files" etc
Prolly in anticipation of reinstall or update.
I had moved the Start entry to another folder, and that was left behind.

Not going to do it again now but a search for 'Symantec' and 'Norton' in the reg and on the disc post running the tool was revealing.

IIRC, the standard advice is run uninstall from add/remove, then run the removal tool as noted above?
