Hi All

Does anyone know for sure how many updates there were for the recent Windows patches? I got only 2 i thought there was supposed to be 4. Here's what i got:

1.critical update for IE 6 service pack 1 (kb837009)

2.cumulative security update for OE 6 service pack 1 (kb837009)

Am running Windows ME, IE 6

Thanks a bunch.

Sorry, you'll have to wait for another ME user for a "correct" answer. The collection was for everything from 98 (maybe even 95) on up plus IE and OE, and the number of patches depends on the particular OS version. For my XP-Home there were 5 of them, a little over 3 megs total.

Also, if you check the FAQs at Microsoft, you'll see that some of the patches have been deemed 'not critical' for 95, 98 & ME.

You could also have a look at this thread (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,9959126~mode=flat) at DSLR.

Randy tells you there for example some things about MS04-013 837009 with respect to Windows 98.

On my Windows 98 SE IE 5.5 SP2 (Dutch) box I have manually installed that patch "MS04-013 837009".

I installed it yesterday (after making a backup-image of my system).

So far I don't see any problem with it.

See for that patch this MS site:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS04-013.mspx

Side notes:

That MS site says:

-{ Quote: "
Outlook Express 5.5 SP2 on Windows 2000 SP3, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows Millennium Edition

Date Time Version Size File name Platform
----------------------------------------------------------------------
04-Mar-2004 00:55 5.50.4939.300 573,200 Inetcomm.dll X86
16-Oct-2002 03:15 5.50.4922.1500 1,146,640 Msoe.dll X86

" }-

Size and version of those two files are the same on my system.
Only date/time are slightly different, but that could very well be caused by my Dutch version:

Inetcomm.dll :
date/time: woensdag 3 maart 2004 17:04:34

Msoe.dll :
date/time: woensdag 16 oktober 2002 9:04:30

Of course I could make a full report about every file change after installing that patch.

If I recall correctly, FanJ, that was the only one of that set of updates that was listed as 'critical' for ME. (Or did I miss one?)

Take a look here (http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/200404_windows.asp) for the answer on your question;)
