I don't even take this seriously. The guy obviously knows nothing about malware. Consider the quote "In the beginning I simply assumed malware would fall into my hands, it hasn't been this easy." Or the fact that he thinks he may be able to simply use the defs from another product (as if you just read the defs and--BANG!--they work straight off). He mentions Nero and Dr. Web, but those entities have a licensing agreement for that. <sigh>

Thanks for your info. I was sent the lionk by a friend that asked me to check it out to see if it was worth the download. That's why I posted here to see if anyone used it or tried it. I wasn't going to tell my friend that it was a crappy program just becuase the maker said something I didn't like.

W32.Welchia.Worm
W32.Welchia.Worm
W32.Dumaru@mm
W32.Swen.A@mm
Win32.RousSarc
I-Worm.CodeRed
Win32.Solaris
Worm.P2P.Lolol.a
I-Worm.Gibe.B
I-Worm.Klez.e
Worm/IRC.url
W32/Mydoom-A
W32/Mydoom-A
W32/Mydoom-B
W32/Magistr-A
W95/CIH-10xx

VBS/Netlog-H
VBS/Netlog-B
VBS/LifeStages
W32/Bagle.gen
W32/Netsky-C
W32/Bagle-H
W32/Netsky-P

I did start a Win32.Sobig.f Worm, which should be detected if i belive the viruslist of lms.

And...

...nothing !

( see attached screenshot )

However, this software is not even worth to be freeware.
It's completely useless - even if it would detect one or let's say 2 malware samples.

Regards,
Michael

I wasn't slamming the product just because of what the author said, really. It's just that... the author said some things that in my opinion disqualify him for authoring such a product. There are far, far too many reputable, established products out there (some of them freeware, no less) for this to even be considered.

Thanks for the replies. I told my friend not to mess with the program. I turned him on to Avast a few months ago and I told him I didn't see the reason why he needed a memory scanner.

Just FYI - the avast! Virus Cleaner is a similar tool - but works well (as far as I can tell). It can completely and reliably remove a number of worms/viruses (currently more then 320). It's only about 300KB is size and doesn't require installation... :)

I love it when someone says that software should not be criticized by anyone who cannot write code themselves. Do these people ever complain about a bad movie they see, or an unreliable car they drive? But can they readily make a major motion picture themselves, or mass-produce an automobile? I didn't think so.

And by the way, I am a "great coder". I just happen to work on a platform other than Win32. Oh gee, there ARE other platforms out there? Who knew?
